WILL 15X7'' WHEELS FIT ON BACK OF 1970 NOVA?
Hi,I currently have 14x7 SS wheels with 225/70/14 tires. Will 15x7 wheels with 225/60/15 tires fit the back wheel wells of my 1970 Nova? And if I make the switch how much are my wheels and tires worth to sell? The wheels are in almost perfect shape, aftermarket trim rings and BF GOODRICH RWL tires with 80-85% tread.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.Bill.

What is the back spacing of the 15X7 wheels? Are they GM Rally wheels?
I would think your SS wheels and tires are worth $600-$800 if they are original YA or AO wheels and not repops? IMO |
Re: WILL 15X7'' WHEELS FIT ON BACK OF 1970 NOVA?
The back space on the 15x7 wheels is 4.25".The code on the wheels is M40 7 22 LZ.Bill.

Re: WILL 15X7'' WHEELS FIT ON BACK OF 1970 NOVA?
Does anyone know what M40 7 22 LZ means on my SS wheels? And the 15x7 wheels that I'm looking at are Cragars.

Re: WILL 15X7'' WHEELS FIT ON BACK OF 1970 NOVA?
The LZ code wheel is actually a Olds wheel that is similar to the Chevy SS wheel.

Re: WILL 15X7'' WHEELS FIT ON BACK OF 1970 NOVA?
Thanks SNSS.Are they rare?Same back space as the SS's?

Re: WILL 15X7'' WHEELS FIT ON BACK OF 1970 NOVA?
I don't know how rare they are. Probably about the same value as the SS wheel set. I tink the dimensions are the same the Olds wheels were just chrome originally..

The 15" wheels you reference will fit, you could likely go as big as a 255 without much trouble. Stay away from a 275 though!
http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...rp/71Nova3.jpg Stay away from L60's too! http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...rp/71Nova1.jpg |

Re: WILL 15X7'' WHEELS FIT ON BACK OF 1970 NOVA?
They are when they rub on the qtr lips and a piece of rubber starts flapping around whacking the qtr panel...... Yea, that's kinda bad!

Couldn't swing a dead cat w/o hitting a Nova/Camaro sitting like a stinkbug. |
Re: WILL 15X7'' WHEELS FIT ON BACK OF 1970 NOVA?
I agree ^^^
the ones you had to be aware of were the ones that knew how to get rubber under the wheel wells without HiJackers those guys knew what it took to get the job done ... and they usually used Turbo mufflers, not Cherry Bombs ... walk softly but carry a big stick is the saying they also had the good traction bars that replaced the spring plates, not the clamp on kind, and the smart ones painted them black ... at least that is what I did got more takers that way |

If you took 3/4-inch off per side (narrowed) the rear housing in a '68-'72 Nova, then a common 4-1/2-inch backspace 15X8 wheel with a L60 would fit. On some cars you'd have to remove (cut off) the back shock dust covers. I think when we see folks discussing Day 2, they get the players mixed up. There were serious guys who knew how to get with the program and then there were the guys we "tenderly" called "Squirrels". Those were the guys with the chain link steering wheels, cheap traction bars, air shocks filled to the max, lift kits, and either peace signs or "funny looking" plant leafs glued to their cars. Most of the time, those cars made a lot of racket and little else. They were cop magnets. Meanwhile, the serious players like Jim pointed out pretty much ruled the streets. It was tough to keep up with a well-sorted "Deuce". My 2 cents. Wayne |
Re: WILL 15X7'' WHEELS FIT ON BACK OF 1970 NOVA?
God I can't remember...but I think I had 15's on the back of my Nova...with L60's? I rolled the inner lip... had lowering blocks on the rear leafs...and a big block up front and a half coil cut...made it sit pretty well!

Re: WILL 15X7'' WHEELS FIT ON BACK OF 1970 NOVA?
I guess I was a 'squirrel' then! I liked the look, but didn't have the money to at that time to be a serious contender so the 6 banger and monojet did the job. Got me back and forth to college, eventually put a 350/TH350 in it toned it down a bit - but sold it in my last year of school to pay tuition. I don't want it back, I was hard on that car!
