Amazing letter from L78 Pace Car original owner
I thought some may enjoy hearing this story.
Last week I received a very….amazing letter from the original owner of the L78 Pace Car. Back in June I mailed some pictures of the Pace Car and a letter to the 80 year old original owner. I wanted to know any stories, information, anything he remembers about the Pace Car. I got a nice letter back from both he and his wife Shirlene. The letter had lots of very interesting info, a picture of their current perfect 67 BB Pace Car and a picture of the L78 taken in 1970 but…..no documents. Last week I get a letter from Shirlene with a note that said “I recently been throwing photos away and in one album I found this paper. Thought you would enjoy it”. I’m really enjoying it. I was surprised to see that the signature on the letter and the one on the dealer sales order are the same. So, I guess this was really Shirlene's L78 Pace Car. I’ve obscured some of the personal info and the last three of the vin. I love it when the effort of tracking down former owners pays off! Priceless documentation - great outcome.

Re: Amazing letter from L78 Pace Car original owner
I just love it when people from past ownership just "Give " you the paperwork.
Back in 1985 when Mike Pillsbury met Frank Burell at the NCRS Corvette Nationals in Boston. Mike had found and was restoring the #2 1960 Cunningham Corvette LeMans car, and Frank was the crew chief on that car (and many other neat Corvette race cars from 1956-66 era). Frank "GAVE" Mike an old driving suit, arm bands used by security, entry records, newpaper articles by the local French paper, and many spare interior parts and tons of photos of the ' three cars' at the race including before , during and after race weekend. The hobby is well when people "share" |

You never know. I'd given up and then......WHAM!!! Jim Great story. I feel very fortunate that the original owners, Shirlene in particular sent me the original dealer sales order. One member did question the Pace Cars authenticity early on but I’m sure he will not be posting on this thread. I did send Shirlene some flowers however, with a big thank you note. |
Re: Amazing letter from L78 Pace Car original owner
Thanks Rick,
Maybe I will start a new thread and make some posts around the net again about my car. I have a recent(past few years) letter from the 1978 prior owner. He even writes about pulling the original motor and replacing with a 350 for gas reasons. I have no owner history prior to this. I am more in search of my motor than anything. An original block came up for sale just recently that was only a few hundred from my VIN...I guess it cannot hurt to try again. Thanks.... ..and again Good Luck with yours !!!!! She's a beauty..and now with docs.!!!! awesommeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !!!! Max |
