Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
I've been pining over this cool local ride for a few years (ain't for sale just yet). Tail lites say '67, but I think (no expert here) that it is a '69? Love this beast - bone dry AZ truck.
phone camera pix (photos should right themselves in a few minutes)... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...c20pickup4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...c20pickup5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...c20pickup3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...c20pickup1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...c20pickup2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...c20pickup6.jpg |
Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
Side marker lights make it '68 or newer. Egg crate grille in '71 I think. I'm guessing '68 or '69.
I always liked that body in 4x4 too. |
Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup

Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
it's a 69 or 70...67-8 share a grill.

Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
Oooo and a creepy crawler 4spd to boot.
|
Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
open the glove box if you can, basically the build sheet is glued to the glove box door for options and codes, also that one has the good axels Sam.

Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
I always wanted to Day-2 one of these trucks... Do it Sam! It would be a cool hauler for the Y-Nova!
|
Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
I figured some other folks 'round here would appreciate this truck. Man - I think I would just go thru the mechanicals on this and leave the patina alone.

Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
Here's a few '69s from the web (last one, 4x4, is very tuff looking w/ no hub caps and black painted wheels )...

Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
very cool. several levels of trim in 69/70 including the Camper Special with the 8 and 1/2 foot bed (I think the longest fleetside ever). Looks like that paint will clean up nice!!

Camper Specials are cool and I recall thinking how strange they were the first time I looked closely at the box extension pieces.. Is that factory Chevy wood in the box floors?. Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
ummmmmmm, Camper Specials are FORD's!, which are also a very cool truck but not the same, lol.......Chev is called a Custom Camper and has very cool script lettering mounted on the door up high by door handle.
some facts a guy might be interested in. http://www.antiquechevytrucks.com/Co...eries_main.htm |
Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
Nice website Bud. Thanks for the heads up. Couple more shots of the C20. I noticed it has dual gas tanks too and the front wheel driveshaft is missing. <span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">Anyone know what kind/manufacturer of tranny should be in this?</span></span> ...

Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
HI i had a 1969 c20 MAKE SURE.... you have lots of money for gas thirsty
|
Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
Think the trans should be a Muncie...sm465 maybe?
|
Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
I may have assumed it was a 4 speed. Could it be a 3 speed with a granny gear? what is an "sm465"?

LOL...I guess I did too! sm465 would be the Muncie 4-speed, and a quick check at 67-72chevytrucks.com says the 3-speed manual will be the Saginaw 341/343. |
Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
My 72 Short Fleet 4x4 has a 4 speed manual. The first gear is fairly useless for standard driving as it is a non syncroed granny gear. Still fun to drive though.

Jason </div></div> But it's AWESOME in a hay truck! Put it in gear, get out, and start throwing bales on it! |
Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
Shaft removal not uncommon sign of front end gear problems or desire to save gas, absolutely a guzzler. Granny gear is a real tree climber, there is not much you can't move with that.
Really clean body , perfect patina !! a little wet sand and rub it out then a coat of clear satin. That's what I should have done with the kids Nova. |

Jason </div></div> Jason - what are the particulars on your tranny - kind and manufacturer. Was it original to your truck? |
Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
I wish I could tell you. I have just driven it. I could find out but it may be different since mine is a 1/2 ton.

Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
It should be the sag 465 granny gear as mentioned above, pictured below. standard in the 2500.

Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
Good stuff guys. Sounds like a decent gear box - tuff, spares available, easy to find parts, not real expensive. |
Re: Chevy C20 4x4 4 spd pickup
front driveline is most likely out for milage reasons. they were also very wimpy and it didnt take much to twist one up and kill it.
those saddle tanks are very common and ended up in almost all ever made, like Jason says even if you baby it, its like driving muscle, they run through lots of fuel. |
