New to Super Cars
I recently Purchased two 70 Nova SS 396 4 speed cars. I wanted one but had to buy two to get the Hugger Orange L-78 I wanted. It was an ex drag car. No roll bars just Rear wheel wells "enlarged" The motors were both long gone. I Brought the first one home a white L-34 and tried to Sell it to a Restore who told me to wait that it was a real L-34 396 350 hp 4 speed and I would regret selling it!. Basic interior rubber matt car. Thanks Rick for that one!I took it home and Went back the next day to Dunn Nc to get the One I wanted. Rick could not Beleive that I had found two Big Block SS 396 cars. The White L-34 was a New york Original car and the Original Owner lived in NC. I have meet him and Got stories on the car. The original Motor was "Too weak" and he replaced it with an L-88 427 to Street race. WJ told me all the history of the car.It was a street racer as he called it. Very cool guy!
The Orange car that I had my heart set on was more of a challenge. No title and No one wanted to talk about it?? The Nephew of the owner would not tell me his uncle's name??Only that the car was from Baltimore MD.The car was Raced at Monrovia 75-80 drag way.(it has a winner sticker on the Quarter Glass.) I searched Maryland Dmv and found no records due to my error. (lookin at cowl tag and not dash vin) I then went to Va dmv and found no Records. I contacted Maryland and got what I needed. I have documentation on the cars now.Trying to find an L-34 for a feb built car and a May L-78 as I had one under my nose and let it slip away! UGH! |

Re: New to Super Cars
I got a call from the second owner of the Orange car's son last night. Very Cool call. I also spoke with Harry (the dad and owner) who raced the car. The original engine was swaped for a 427 (l-88). The original engine was stuck in a 66 chevelle and sold for 1500. He sold the car when the 427 spun a bearing. He has three trophies and photos form 75-80 drag way in MD. I hope to get the pics soon! will post.

Re: New to Super Cars
That orange car needs to be put back to that "RACE" configuration-with the WIDE tire's in the Rear-that is what the car is a old school racer-its even got a name now for that style of car its Called "day2"-you have two cars one car can be a stock resto And this one made to look like in those really cool old photo's...old race cars always come back to life!

Re: New to Super Cars
Funny you say that I have a set of 15 x 10 with Mt on them in the shop and 14x7 in front that were on my 66 chevelle back in the day. I have been thinking of droping a 427 in it with dse suspension? I am going to drive it a while the way it is for sure. I love the history and documentation that tells the story. Thanks

Frame connectors and traction bars in place, sun tach box under hood and fox battery guage on dash?????? I might have to put them on and photograph it very soon. Thanks for the moral support and old school photos Who else in mayberry would have one?? HAHA

I posted this pic before-I like this Nova-with the pinstripe's-Jacked up rear end, Chrome reverse rims And a White painted underside- http://i852.photobucket.com/albums/a...r/CoolNOVA.jpgThis Nova is almost like your Orange Car-Same wheel stance-Big balonies in rear-GrumpLump& just So Wild looking-These Nova's are Very easy to work on-I say use those old school parts you have laying around-send us pic's of what you got for the Nova.... |
Re: New to Super Cars
Will do! Thinking about leaving it old school/ Day 2 and having fun with it I will have to find a fiberglass hood. But I won't have to re do the Quarters. The dash and Headliner are perfect! As the car only show 20896 miles on it! That is what is on title too! Thanks for the ideas and photos. This would kind be a tribute to the previous owners. They have 3 trophies form back in the day too.
