E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT
Anybody else catch this 1969 Z/28 clone that turned out to be a real Yenko in disguise? This one really came in under the RADAR! It's on the list of '69 cars. I bet the new owner is in a frantic rush to pick the car up before the seller is bombarded with higher offers to not sell the car to the winning bidder! |
Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
I thought the first thread on this car was a joke, then saw the speedo !! This is real ?

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
Chris, I saw that thread too and couldn't make out what the fella was saying (total of 2 posts, both by same guy are gone now), something like " I took my mother to an appointment and came back and my car was sold - good luck to the new owner!" Can't remember his user name but had about 62 posts and name began with an "n".

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
"N" as in Nacho Yenko ? I didn't see anything.

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
Sorry!...I posted earlier. I spotted this car Saturday and tried to get contact info that evening and all day Sunday. I should have been on the phone first thing this morning, but I had family business concerning my mother. When I returned home the car was sold! I exposed the car here as a knee jerk reaction to missing my oportunity. Shortly afterward I called and asked Rob to delete my posts on the off hand chance that the new owner did not know what he bought. The dogs have been unleashed and I am sure the feeding frenzie has begun.....sometimes I can be my own worst enemy!!!
CONGRATULATIONS to the new owner!!!...call me if you want sell it for what you paid!! neatss Dave McCutcheon |

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
I actually parked right next to that car at a show in Intercourse (no kidding), PA last month! I was so intrigued by it (140 mph speedo, single 3/8 fuel line, etc) that I called Bob Harris from the show to discuss it. We decided that it may be a copo, but there were a ton of wrong things as well. I even told the owner that he may have a very valuable car on his hands and he should contact Jerry. Arghhhhhh - shoulda, coulda

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
The car was never restored and the small block heater box appeared to be original??? Also, no cowl hood piercing in the firewall????

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
Thanks, Bruce
The next couple of weeks should prove very interesting regarding this car. I have left my contact info with the seller and the buyer. I will NOT try to "BUY" the car buy offering the seller more money. A deal is a deal! I will stand second in line and wait. If the good Lord and satan decide to work together on my behalf....maybe I'll have a second chance. Dave McCutcheon |
Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
Dave, I hope it comes thru for you.......
If this plays out as i suspect - we will see this car for sale again at the over 100K price. |

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
Bergy brings up some very good questions. I have only seen the pictures in the ad. I thought that looked like a small block heater box, but the pics aren't real clear. If there is a a typo on the vin list I would think this car would be known by now. Is there any info out there on this vin? 124379N616414
Bergy, you say this car has never been restored. The stripes were added if the owner is correct in saying it was cloned into a Z/28. Did you check the cowl tag for the color? I assumed it wouild show 79 B for the Yenko or 72 A as it is represented. I don't think any Yenkos got white tops. Would't the body number be very helpful? I have lots of other questions, but I guess its too late now. Dave |
Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
Yes!!!
There's still hidden treasure's out there. Just keep searching... |
Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
The owner was a very nice guy, and I was really trying to help him - not buy a copo cheap. I told him that the speedo was from a very valuable car and he should call JM to have him look at it. There were some good signs of it being a copo, but the rear was wrong, radiator, heater box, etc. When I saw that the firewall wasn't pierced for the cowl hood wiring - it looked un-copo like. My bad (really bad)!

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
I think I would be looking for hidden vins if there was no firewall piercing.

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
Yep, just pulled my book - that's the car. I've done a bunch of searches, the last was in early '07 when the car was reportedly in Pine Grove, PA. I recall seeing it on my way to Klinger's junk yard back. My first search was back in '01, car was titled in Pine Grove even then. It was titled in Pottsville, PA before Pine Grove under a woman's name.
Hope it all checks out. |
Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
Yep...I've heard that the hidden VIN's don't correlate with the VIN tag...
True or not? I guess that you'd need to see it in person to know for sure... |

Anyone know the buyer? Does he know what he bought?
|
Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
The consignment company said the buyer was a dealer and would not release any names. He has a new ebay name with 0 feedback.

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
I just returned from inspecting the car. It is not sold and the vin tag does not match the body stamps. The owner is a great guy and is honest as the day is long. He bought the car in March and he just wanted to drive it for the Summer and then re-sell it. To him, it was just a Z28 clone with great paint and a great sound. Right now, he just wants to get his 25k back out of the car. Frankly, 25k is a stretch - except for that pesky vin tag and the original 140 mph inst carrier. If anyone wants to buy the car and then try to find the original body - contact me. The body vin is 587974 - finding that car may provide a clue to where the orignal body is. The owner isn't a car guy and doesn't want to be bugged with a lot of questions that he can't answer. There's nothing in it for me - just trying to help a friend. Maybe you folks out there in the SYC community feel the same way. Thanks, bergy

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
Just a quick update on this car - I inspected it very thoroughly and it had just enough copo attributes that I decided to buy it. Tank has never been out of the car and it has an original single 3/8 fuel line & sending unit plus many other little things. A few things that realy bugged me about the car have been resolved. The tail pan didn't have the extra muonting holes, but I now have old photos from the guy who painted it showing him in the process of replacing the pan. Obviously, the donor body stamp on the cowl needs to be cleared up. I can see that there is a lot of welding around the cowl section though. I was able to speak to the brother of the person who last registered the donor vin (the vin stamped on the cowl) and he told me that the car was in a bad wreck with a logging truck back in 1981 (the car hasn't been registered since then). It was totaled in the rear and the only thing salvagable was doors forward. The car that I have has original, unrepaired rear frame rails. So - I'm encouraged that someone salvaged the firewall out of the donor car and put it on the Yenko for some reason. Still searching for the rest of the pieces of the puzzle. I'm taking tons of photo documentation and certifying statements from everyone that provides data. Thanks to those who have PM'd me info and leads.

Re: E-Bay '69 Yenko Disguised As a Z-28 Clone!
This car will never be anything more than a rebody. There are no COPO specific items on this car other than the VIN in the dash. Hidden vins are from another car, no cowl induction piercing, no holes for the relay, etc, etc. Original cowl tag is long gone so all you have is a vin, period. Your post seems to imply that there will somehow be a Yenko resurected from this car which simply will not be the case. I know all there is to know about this car. Good luck with your project.

Bergy,
Don't be discouraged by negative comments. I'm sure as you dig deeper the real story will come to light. There can be many reason people make negative comments. Many times it is because they are kicking themselves for not stepping up to the plate. Jason |
