reproduction Uniroyal Tiger Paws

If they would reproduce the F70 Uniroyal Tiger Paws would you buy them? What other sizes would you want? Dustin

Re: reproduction Uniroyal Tiger Paws

if they were the same price as the Firestone or Goodyear repro's,you bet i would buy them but i doubt a tire company will reproduce them.
i once owned a 1970 Chevelle SS 396 350 H/P car that had the original mint Uniroyal tire on the spare,it had white letters with F-70-14 on the tire. An owner of a Canadian COPO 69 Camaro out of hamilton traded me 5 good used Goodyear white lettered F70-14 tires for the one Uniroyal tire.

I was also lucky enough to buy a Uniroyal tire at a swap meet for $20 a few years back,i ended up selling that tire on ebay for $560 !!

Re: reproduction Uniroyal Tiger Paws

When I bought our Chevelle new, it had the F70-14 white lettered Uniroyals. I'd be in for a set. I still have the original spare and picked up three more a few years ago but would be afraid to drive on them. Funny thing is, I had changed out the rears for bigger stuff within a month or so of buying the car. The original tires didn't really mean anything back then and were totally inadequate for a 427.

Re: reproduction Uniroyal Tiger Paws

I think they would be a big hit. I unfortunately wouldn't be on the potential buyer's list as I got the Wide Treads several years ago and only have a few hundred miles on them.

In my opinion they were the coolest tire of that era. The White lettered Tiger Paws were on my 69 RS/SS Camaro when I bought it new and when I ordered my 70 Chevelle SS I specifically requested on the sales order that the car come with the Tiger Paws. Back then GM was all about keeping customers happy and my Chevelle was built with the Tiger Paws

GM seemed to provide a lot of Uniroyal tires on the muscle cars.
A large % of the muscle Olds came with Uniroyal. I have 9 of the G70-14 most are NOS. I paid anywhere from $20 Ea to $350.00. They look great but I agree I would not travel anywhere on them.

Sounds like you had better get started talking to Coker tire!!!

Coker then has to start talking to Michelin (parent company of Uniroyal), finding tires to copy for a mold, test builds, DOT testing, etc.

With Coker already having the Firestones, I think you would be hard pressed to have them carry out this excercise, but by all means-- carry on.

Re: reproduction Uniroyal Tiger Paws

I think they would go over but would like to hear everyones coments including negative ones. I can't believe they have not been reproduced yet. If you look at the dates of tires on restored cars some are over 15 years old. In another 10 years there will be alot of reproduction tires on cars that are 25 years old and not safe to drive. Therefore people might replace their old tires if they could change the look of their car or make it more correct. Coker does not make a correct Firestone for a 69 vehicle do they?

I'm amazed also that they haven't repoped the Tiger Paws.I may be interested in a set of E70x14's for my 72 Nova.Still have one of the originals for a spare. The Good Years i have now are going on twenty one years and still look like new.Maybe Kelsey Tire??

-----Kelsey would be a better answer than Coker in my opinion. They have come the closest to correct on their Goodyears. They also seem more willing to listen to collectors about what we want than Coker......Bill S

Kelsey Tire is a stand up operation! I've ordered 5 sets of tires from Kelsey this summer and couldn't agree with Bill more...

Re: reproduction Uniroyal Tiger Paws

Coker will consider molding up a new tire if they have pre booked orders for 500. They did this 8 years ago when the Chrysler 300 Club were looking for a 235-75-14 Radial.
I think Coker already has a lisence for some old Uniroyal Molds.
However to meet demand for E, F and G70-14 they will want to see orders for 500 in each size, that is 375 sets of 4.

Re: reproduction Uniroyal Tiger Paws

If Coker doesn't have this mold license,is Uniroyal,i.e. Michelin tire willing to give their blessing for these to be reproduced today?...and at what cost to the consumer?
I'd be interested in 5 depending on the actual final cost out the door.

Coker has the licensing agreement with Firestone and BFG and U.S. Royal/ Uniroyal. Kelsey has it with Goodyear.

I will be sure to pass along to John Kelsey that so many of you appreciate the efforts that he has made to make sure the reproduction Goodyears have met your needs!!!

I don't mean to take this in a different direction.... I made a quick glance to the thread subject list and instead of seeing "reproduction Uniroyal", I thought I saw "reproduction Urinal"! The eyes/mind can be wacky sometimes.

No, that would fall under the heading of most all of the other reproduction parts made today.........

Re: reproduction Uniroyal Tiger Paws

Just out of curiosity, how big of an initial production order would they need before they would build the molds for the tires. I would think that a correct '69 Uniroyal would go over well.

69Tom 08-13-2010 06:30 AM

Re: reproduction Uniroyal Tiger Paws

Keith, I agree. I think they'd be very popular, especially in light of all the '69 Chevys (Camaros, specifically) people have up and running.

Re: reproduction Uniroyal Tiger Paws

Hi Guys!!!

I spoke with John Kelsey this morning and I relayed this idea to him. As I had thought, if this is to progress foward, it will be with Coker tire.

Okay, so now you start knocking on Coker's door to have the train start rolling. They will then start with the process for research and procurement of NOS tires (already a couple have spoke up with tires in hand). Once the research is done and the molds are built, then they have to go to the tire manifacturing facility to have the tires trialed out, test builds, etc.

This is where it is going to get real sticky. As of this spring, when Dennmen filed Chapter 7 backruptcy, there is ONE faculity in North America that is making bias ply passenger car tires. This is the faculity that Kelsey has had his tires made at for a number of years. Now you have any development work being slowed down dramatically because the size of the team working on new product trials and trying to fit this into normal production. This will effect everyone equally. Kelsey and Coker are going to have to wait in line together to have new product tested, trialed, and put together.

Now, with all of this said, I encourage you guys to speak with one voice and let Coker know what you are wanting. Speak often, and loud!!!

Remember, it takes the idea of profit to make product move!!!!!

Re: reproduction Uniroyal Tiger Paws

Just curious if there has been any movement in the direction of reproducing these tires. Just found out my COPO Chevelle originally came with Tiger Paws.

The original owner said they weren't very good tires, he immediately changed over to a set of Goodyears. He worked for Goodyear and got a deal on them, he said they (Goodyears) gripped really well. But, I'd certainly buy a set if these were repopped.

What is the consensus on as-delivered COPO Chevelles wrt tire manufacturer? My Baltimore L78 'velle had the Goodyear Wide Treads delivered on it.
