Chris, I was very sad to hear of Pauls passing. I loved talking about L88 corvettes with him and about the business world as well. I am glad I knew him and am proud to say he was a friend of mine. My thoughts and prayers to his family. Steve A. Bramati

Re: Paul Dehnert

Our Saturday morning group was together yesterday when the sad email came in from Paul’s wife. He was doing well from cancer treatment and caught pneumonia. He just couldn’t overcome the pneumonia in his weak state.

Paul was usually with us on Saturday morning as we “tried” to fix cars, so it was fitting we heard the news while we were all together on Saturday.

The fun thing about Paul was that he liked and collected all cars from Ferrari's to Mercury’s, nothing was off limits to him. Many of us went on trips with him in his Freightliner motor home and he drove that truck like Lance Armstrong rode a bike. He just wouldn’t stop until he reached his destination.

We’re going to miss him.

Very sorry to hear this. Paul and I had corresponded several times and we had very similar tastes in our affection for early-60's Musclecars. He owned a '62 SD 421 Catalina and an extremely neat and very rare Mercury Marauder 427-425 HP. Sorry to hear of his passing.

Re: Paul Dehnert

Paul loved those big musclecars and had most all brands covered.
He taught me lots about the Pontiac SD cars.

Dana Mecum's photographer was in Austin last week to photograph all of the vehicles Paul owned. They're all going to be sold at his Indy auction in May.
It sounds as if he’s going to put together a nice brochure for all of Paul’s cars and motorcycles.

-----Paul had exquisit taste in cars, in my opinion. He knew what he liked and went after what he liked. He wasnt afraid to get his hands dirty and best of all, he liked to include his friends in alot of his automotive adventures. He was such a unique individual and I miss him......Bill S

I bought his Hemi Satellite and owned it for maybe 1 minute when my cell phone rang while still onstage and another member here crying that he wanted it. Huge profit...OK maybe little profit...Ok maybe no profit...It is going to a good home. I also bought one of Pauls Triumph's. Rest in peace Paul. You had some cool stuff.

Re: Paul Dehnert

The 1800 mile Hemi Satelite story as i have heard it is that it was owned by a Moonshiner that got busted and went to prison. His brother took his Satelite and a 700 mile Hemi Challenger and dug a hole in the side of a mountain, put the cars inside and walled them up till his brother finished doing his time. Both cars are now sitting side by side again....

Charlie, how did the 62 SD car and the 61 ventura do?Tom

Charley Lillard 05-26-2011 03:32 PM

Re: Paul Dehnert

I thought someone said the SD went for about 90K ? No idea on the Ventura.

TimG 05-26-2011 03:35 PM

Re: Paul Dehnert

The SD went for $92,500 if I remember correctly. The 61 did OK, I can't remember the number now. Best car was the Ferrari at $265,000 and the L88 did well at $210,000. Another friend bought the '66 L72 Impala and it's going to Houston. The "R" Code Ford and Mercury didn't do too well and they were cool cars. The ZR1 Corvettes didn't break the bank, either. I would have liked the 415 ZR1, but it couldn't pass Smog inspection, so it really couldn't be driven on the street.
The bikes went through the roof, Paul's daughter bought one.
The Grand Prix did well at $35,000, it was a cool car and very fast. The Plum Impala went for $37,000.
I enjoyed driving the L88 over the block, had some fun rides in that car with Paul at the helm.

Charley Lillard 05-26-2011 08:19 PM

Re: Paul Dehnert

Now I'm told the moonshiner story is just that....a story....It and the Challenger were together though.

from what I remember of the 62 car at Norwalk that was a good buy for the new owner.Tom
