Re: Yenko Reunion at PVGP
Like I said a couple posts earlier - we gotta have some PIX! Eddie (enio45) came through. He made the trek back to the 'burgh and said the show was outstanding. He met a few site members and made some new friends too which I'll let him chime in on. The tribute to Yenko (featuring Donna Mae) was part of the annual Vintage Grand Prix in beautiful Schenley Park. Wx cooperated nicely.

Re: Yenko Reunion at PVGP
The Pink Vette is the car DM was seated in for her visitation/funeral service.
Cool car, with the mural of Marilyn Monroe on the hood. She had it at our very first SCR. |

Re: Yenko Reunion at PVGP
Sam, i have a few more of the DM car - bugeye sprite in the famous pink and im looking for a few more pics of Tom O'Briens 63 Yenko Vette Race Car, the University of Pittsburg 69 Camaro and a few others of the show.
This event was orgnaized by Mark Gillespie - (im looking for his pic as well). Mark wrote the book "The Yenko Era" and had a few on hand for sale. Also in attendance was Mark Kickle (sp?) with his 69 HO Yenko Camaro - white stripe car. His car was done more than 10 years ago and it look great! The event surprised me mostly about the people that came to the show to see specifically the YENKO display - because they were associated with these cars from the past, either lived close by the showroom, owned one at some time in the past hoping to see the car at the show or remembered some of the cars and drivers in the race day. Guys came back the second day with memorbilia, jackets and pics of items they had and people they knew. I even met a 2nd cousin from Freedom PA that owned a blue Yenko Chevelle, bought new in the day and later sold it to Vince Emmy. Having it in Pittsburg was a good thought, considering the proximity of the dealership and home of many Yenko Cars. Sam, I'll send more pics later tonite. Rumor has it that Mark Hassett ate the BIGGEST MEATBALL ever at JOE MAMA's Italian Resturant on Forbes Avenue!!!!! |
Re: Yenko Reunion at PVGP
Gotcha Ed. Send the pix on down and I'll get em posted. Did you say "<span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">Joe Mama's</span></span>"?
Never had the pleasure, but it's got to be good with a name like that! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...IMG_0026-1.jpg |
Re: Yenko Reunion at PVGP
Here is Eddie's long lost cousin Anthony "Tony" Montini. He and Eddie grew up just a couple of streets apart from each other. Tony's LB Yenko Chevelle that he bought brand new in Canonsburg used to be owned by yenko.net's Chad Blomberg and was a November 2004 Supercar Feature a while back.
Here's Tony and Chuck (notice Tony's shirt ) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...tiniCHuber.jpg |

Re: Yenko Reunion at PVGP
FYI - the link for the week long event is here.
http://www.pvgp.org/pvgp/site/default.asp It is free to spectators and is funded all thru sponsors. The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Association's mission is to produce a world-class vintage racing event in order to raise funds that help provide residential care, treatment and support individuals with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Pittsburgh region. The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, with the help of Presenting Sponsor Shop 'n Save raised a record $110,000 for their charities in 2009, bringing the 27 year total to $2.5 million. The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is proud of our long and successful history with our two dedicated charities; the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School. |

Re: Yenko Reunion at PVGP
Donna Mae's Bugeye was restored by Jeff Moore who lives in SW Missouri. Several years ago he sold a Yenko Stinger Corvair to the actor Tim Allen.

My lips are sealed - can't say what i did!
I am hoping they make an effort to continue this next yr - it gives everyone an opportunity around the burg area that have been associated with Yenko cars at one time or another to get together. |
