Carlisle All GM Nationals
Went Friday. Vendors were at an all time low.
Lots of 2010 Camaros. Solid Lifter showroom was great. Anyone else go? |
Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
I was there too and those are my thoughts also.Did get to meet some of the guys and picked up some Bluestreak slicks so I guess it was ok for me.

Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
If anyone bumps into Howie, tell him Carlise is a hour ahead of Missouri.
Howie called bright and early this morning (see above) and said he was having a good time, most of the time. Even though not there to be judged, one of the judges at Carlisle made a point to stop by the display and tell Howie that his car should be Red, but is now Purple. I guess he knows, afterall he is a judge. |
Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
I just came back after vending since Thursday morning. A few more years and there will be no more vendors left. Bathrooms and showers were closed so the 4 showers in north field are suppose to service everyone... bs.

Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
Anybody got pics of the solid lifter showroom? I couldn't make it this year (graduation weekend). Last years was awewsome just curious to see what was there this year.
|
Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
Howie was happy after he ate a few boxes of T-Kakes. Forgot all about the color of his car! There was some outstanding Z/28's to be judged by MacNeish and Company in the one bldg. especially a paint delete Hugger orange??? 1967 Z/28. What a car! The solid lifter display was real good again this year. Those Gibb novas and Joes 1969 harrell camaro are my favorites. K.Howie was sturring up trouble again with his antics. A great guy to be around. Always stirring the pot. Loved talking to Mike Angelo and Grady Burch also. Two more guys with plenty of knowledge. Spent some time with our own Verne Frantz in the vendors area listening to stories about Strickler/Jenkins and the 409 days. Another guy with a bunch of nostalgic info. A warm but good day. Worth the trip IMO.

Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
hitting the road in six hours. hopefully the solid lifter showroom will be worth the trip, not much for the vendor area or the car corral this trip.

Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
Hey Chris - we're going also - look for us - Verne has a couple of spots!
|
Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
Just arrived in after 10 hours driving. I loved the Solid Lifter showroom and also the building where the judging was taking place. There was not many vendors in my mind. New camaros sure out numbered first and second gen cars.Looks like the way a lot of shows are going.
|
Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
Spent the day there. Saw everything, twice. Vendor space is a lot smaller than it used to be. Hung out until just after the engine giveaway.

Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
Can't wait to see pix of the purple missle in the show!
Joe Stop pointing Howie it's not nice. |
Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
I drove over on Satuday. Only an hour from Lancaster. Solid lifter showroom was great. Saw Jerry M. and Bob Harris - in the judging area. Lots of Zs this year. The Pace Car display tent was great too - 396/375 Track car - very cool.

Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
i went to the GM nationals at Carlisle a couple of times a few years back.
i have nothing against Camaros but they should rename the show the "Camaro Nationals" as that show is dominated by camaros with more than 50% of the show field and vendors with Camaros and Camaro parts. i just felt it was a waste of time for me as i wanted to see a lot more of the other GM makes along with the Camaros. |

Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
The Solid Lifter Showroom was GREAT again! – But the Sunday cars and crowds were pretty nonexistent.
The flea market and car corral could have fit in a Lowes parking lot. This was about 11 am http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...e/P1010079.jpg - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...e/P1010078.jpg - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...P1010072-1.jpg - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...e/P1010070.jpg |

Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
Glenn, you smoked me on the photos as usual, I'm having trouble uploading. Did you notice that BIG SS427 had a BALDWIN sticker and a Maine license plate... who is that !!??

Ken Lucas did an amazing job with the special paint code (orange) 67Z - all his work is top notch. Here are a few pictures of the car (prior to completion) http://i317.photobucket.com/albums/m...6396/SP67Z.jpg http://i317.photobucket.com/albums/m.../67ZEngine.jpg |

They both had Maine personalized plates, one had what looked like a Baldwin repop sticker the other seemed to have a Camaro grill emblem on the trunk. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...P1010032-1.jpg - http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t...e/P1010041.jpg - |
Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
Glenn, I missed you in the solid lifter showroom building. When were you there? I was there most of Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with 2 LS6 cars. From the pics you uploaded it looks like late Sunday morning. Would have liked to have said hi.

The placement of the "SS" emblem is correct for 1969. Here's a pic of a 69 SS 427 that was just restored by a good friend of mine.... http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l2...n_IMG_0255.jpg |
Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
Here's another pic of another 69 SS 427 owned by the same friend....a hardtop this time showing the placement of the "SS" emblem.

Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
Your SS is much closer to the trunk lock then the one at Carlise...It has more space? Which one is right?

Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
Me and my boys will be there next year! We're there any Jenkins or Strickler cars at this event? They were the killer team back in the '60's.

Kim </div></div> Oh, the sites you see at Carlisle!! http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...4_422260_n.jpg For many years (at least until he broke his sternum at Talladega) The Intimidator prided himself on getting in and out of his #3 without removing the steering wheel, not many people know this but it was Kim who taught Dale Earnhardt Sr. how to do that gracefully. It was great talking to you Kim, hope to see you at the next event! |

Re: Carlisle All GM Nationals
The art of removing ones oversized body from this car when viewing it in person or on video is classic. We have seen this technique many times over the past few years and it never ceases to make us laugh till we cry..........sorry Howie!
