Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
This something that Rick Pauley (RixLs6) and I have been working on......
"We are looking into developing the 1969 Chevelle 300 post car seat cover kits. We are requiring 25 -30 preliminary sales on these kits before we will make them. Please contact our sales department if you are interested in these seat cover kits." 800-363-8804 Ask for Chris Here is the thread from "Team Chevelle" http://www.chevelles.com/classifieds...189&cat=55 Hopefully this becomes a reality. Dan |

Good news Dan. A very distinctive and tough seat cover. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
Wish I had a dollar for everytime somebody has asked me over the past ten years where they can get these seatcover kits, I could be retired by now https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif
Let's hope they get enough orders to go through with this Dan. |
Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
How about door panels? Or should I just shut up and go sit in the corner?
|
Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat cove
Pretty sure the make the door panels for the 300 posts, but don't think for the 300 coupes.

[/ QUOTE ] Get out of the corner and ask all the 300 Deluxe guys to ante up. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif I've talked with Mike at Legendary a couple times and he told me that they are looking to get a pre-order of 30 Door Panels for the `69 300 Deluxe 2 Dr. Post sedans, then will also need 1 full set of original panels to use as templates. I offered to let them use a set of blue ones I have if they are truly going to start production. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif Shame is they need to tear apart the originals to get all the specs they need. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif I don't see why they couldn't also offer to make panels for the 300 coupes, if 30 guys placed pre-orders for those. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |

Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
We were fortunate in only needing minor repairs done to our seats. It took us a couple of years before I found out from Al McKenzie about SMS Auto Fabrics, where I got the basket weave material for the repairs. Pretty well all the 300 Deluxe cars you see have Malibu interiors. I would think that 30 customers shouldn't be very hard to find. The 300 Deluxe is just something that most people don't see very often and especially in an SS car. It's always good for a conversation at car shows.

Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
Well Keith, speaking of the 300 Cars, I have just met a guy that sounds like he owned your 300 Silver SS car back in the early 1990's. He's from Belleville, ON. I'll send you his information in case you want to contact him.
Sorry to get this threead off track a little. |
Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
Thanks Don. I've e-mailed Paul some pictures to show him that the car has been taken care of and enjoyed. It's been about 16 years since he owned it. So far I've contacted five previous owners including the original owner. The history and stories are neat.

That's awesome Keith and Don!

Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
Too bad legendary stuff is of poor fit and quality. If PUI made them would be better..

Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
Now the thread is back on track. I always had the impression that Legendary did good work. I've never dealt with them so don't have any experience. Did have a minor stitching problem with a PUI skin a few years ago but my upholstery guy had things looking good in no time.

I have never had a problem with either fit or quality. Was your bad experience you had on your 1968 L36 M20 Biscayne factory black car/blue interior? Dan |

Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
No, the interior I got for the Biscayne came from SMS.
I sold muscle car parts on a retail level for 10 years, and It was my experience that they were over priced and not that great of a fit. Granted that was about 7 years ago roughly, so maybe I'm wrong now. I have personally used PUI interiors on all of my "regular" GM restoration projects over the past 15 years, and I have yet to find any fit or quality issues with them, hence my comment. To clarify, its just been my personal experience in the past. Personally, I still would not use their product until I saw the upholstery installed on someone else's car, and spoke to the installer to see what they felt. It might make a difference in my opinion that I install my own interiors as opposed to paying a shop to put them on. A lot of the people who swear by Legendary are Mopar guys, as for a long time Legendary was the only company doing a lot of the mopar stuff. Mark |

Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
-----My interior guy up here in the Port Huron area of Michigan has done a bunch of concours Meadowbrook type cars. Hes very good and loves Legendary stuff. PUI has left him cold for some reason. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif.......Bill S

Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
pui 70 Chevelle buckets are FLAT as a board. NOT even close to being right. and the dieletrics pop all over the place.
I got 3 sets from them before I got 1 set that was a little better then half A$$. Legendary is the Cadillac of interiors. there is NO comparison! |
Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
Mark,
I am no spokesperson for Legendary Auto Interiors. But I can honestly tell you that when LAI introduced there newest door panels at Chevel-Abration 4 years ago for 1970-72 Chevelles we were all blown away. As you said....its been roughly 7 years ago. Things have changed for the better. If you were to personally install one of these LAI door panels on, I bet you would be very impressed by there very high quality and fit. I can also email you pics of several intalls. Feel free to email me at..... Dan |
Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
Ok....here is the latest news. We need 25 orders in order to have Legendary Auto Interiors produce the "300 Deluxe" door panels. The door panels would come in 3 colors...Black, Blue and Green. The price will be $331 for the fronts and $213 for the rears. They need "YOUR Original" top rails for only the rear door panels. They make the front rails in shop for the front panels. However, If you wish to use your own original top rails for the front door panels, this can be arranged.
Because I expressed concern with there very own made front top rails, LAI has offered to ship me the very first proto-type set of door panels to try and test.....and give my results back to everyone. I thought this was very cool of them to do. Now for the "300 Deluxe" seat covers.....once LAI`s has an original set of seats to use as a mold. They will be able to make the seat covers in only Black, Blue and Green Cloth. No Black Vinyl at the present time. A set of "300 Deluxe" seat covers price is $1013. NOS material is subject for availability. Let`s spread the world. Dan. |
Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
Great news Dan. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif That's a reasonable price on these panels.
I will be making an order for 2 sets of door panels. |

Re: Legendary Auto Interiors to make new seat covers
Thanks for the info Dan,
Hmm...Maybe I will give them a try next time. If they are better now I will want to be using them on my upcoming interior restos. Thanks for the info. BTW Just out of curiosity, how are they priced in comparison? |
