New Project 70 LT-1 Corvette
Here are a few photos of my new project, a born with engine 70 LT1 Corvette. This is going to be my wife's driver until we decide exactly what to do with it. Couldn't help but open the garage doors on Sunday. It made it into the 40's!

Re: New Project 70 LT-1 Corvette
Very nice looking Laguna Grey coupe. I'm very partial to the styling of the coupe, it's just has the sexiest body lines of any American muscle car. Your wife is pretty lucky to have such a vehicle to enjoy!

Re: New Project 70 LT-1 Corvette
Please post progress pictures; I have a '69 coupe that I'd like to re-do and having something to refer to would be a great motivator.
I always wanted a '70 LT1 but, could only afford a L46. |
Re: New Project 70 LT-1 Corvette
Car does not look like it needs much to me. Nice car and the Lt-1 is a great motor! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: New Project 70 LT-1 Corvette
If you LT-1 guys like that, here is a car a friend of mine owns. 71 with 13,000 miles. Unrestored. Came from Dale Chevrolet with a PILE of paperwork. Purchased from the original owner.

Re: New Project 70 LT-1 Corvette
------My 70 LT1 Corvette turned a 12.90 with headers, too tall slicks, and smog removed three weeks after I bought it brand new.Slicks were so tall I only ran the first three gears even though the car had 4:11s. Absolutely no other tuning was done, and everything else was bone stock. Yes!!! The LT1s would run https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif.........Bill S

Re: New Project 70 LT-1 Corvette
LT1 Corvettes are still under-rated in my opinion. The 1970 version was the pinnacle of Chevrolet engineering, Balanced chassis, high RPMs and gobs of torque made them an equal match for many big blocks and they would leave them in the dust...if you raced around the block! Nice car, great color and I'm sure your wife will love it. Thanks for sharing, Ed

Re: New Project 70 LT-1 Corvette
I love the LT1's and they do run well. Very nice car, bring it to Road America for the vintage race weekend. There are lots of nice cars there that weekend.

Re: New Project 70 LT-1 Corvette
I've always been fascinated by how the 1970 350-370 LT-1 engine option was more expensive than the 454-390 LS-5 engine on the '70 Corvettes. I believe it was $447 over the base engine while the 454 was only $289 bucks! Chevrolet must've been pretty proud of that little LT-1 to offer it to Corvette customers in 1970 for $158 more than the monstrous 454-390! But run their asses off they did.......a very good friend of mine has owned one since almost new and with the typical 4.11 Posi,Muncie 4-Gear and small-ish 28 x 9 Mickeys, it spits out 12.30 time slips like clockwork. It's biggest modification would only be a set of the requisite headers, but we're talking stock camshaft, stock rockers, original aluminum dual-plane intake with it's matching 780 Vacuum Sec. Holley. That's really gettin' with the program!

Re: New Project 70 LT-1 Corvette
By the way, Tim.....thanks for posting the photos of that beautiful Orange '71 LT-1. That's a really sharp car. I know that not many people like Ontario Orange and prefer the much brighter Hugger and Monaco Oranges but I can remember a very long time ago of looking at an Ontario Orange 'Vette at sunset one evening and that color just come alive at that time of day! I've been a fan ever since.

Re: New Project 70 LT-1 Corvette
A few years back I sold my 71 350/270 automaic coupe. What a mistake.I say dont restore it.It make a nice driver/cruser as it sits.If I owned it I would violate it by repainting it a candy apple tangerine color and adding some wheels.Maybe a set of highly polished 15x8.5 aluminum slots,or maybe some 16 or 17 inch Torque Thrusts.Good luck with it.
