Re: vintage baby car seats?
The baby seats we had when I was a kid involved laying on the rear package tray. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif The photo above is a classic. Looks like Ralph Nader? I wonder if anyone questioned why a 5-year old girl is driving a car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

How the heck did we all live????????

Re: vintage baby car seats?
We just rolled around in the back of the station wagon or pick-up and used our sisters, brothers and friends as padding. I remember flying across the front seat during one accident and I never remember anyone ever telling us to wear our seat belts (if there were any). Ahh, the good ole days!

Re: vintage baby car seats?
I remember turning into our street in our 65 Rambler station wagon when I was about 5. Guess I didn't close the door all the way and it came open, I went sliding out the passenger door(plastic covered seats). I was hanging on the door for dear life trying to keep my feet off the pavement. Never wore a seat belt until I joined the Air Force I was forced to do so.
I am a big believer in seat belts and car seats especially in my current job. We call those who insist on not wearing their seat belts "job security." We can tell if you are lying to the med crew about wearing one, if you were wearing one it'll leave a mark. You can also tell which side of the car you were on based on the shoulderbelt welt that will be there if you are in a bad one. |

Re: vintage baby car seats?
My mother rolled a VW bus with myself and three sisters in it (most of us were out of it when it was over) Only one broken arm and a few stitches and bruises. We can laugh about it now!!
http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-...99237_6205.jpg Not a seat belt in sight!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif http://photos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-...27789_6116.jpg |
Re: vintage baby car seats?
We have a nice blue NOS one in the box still:

Re: vintage baby car seats?
Hahaha on the Dennis the Menace name!.
There's lots of recalls on older 'child products' and many have been recalled so there's bounties worth cash, restaurant and product coupons etc on lots of this unsafe stuff just to get it out of circulation.. You guys could be sitting on gold-mines!!! And not that it means anything to you guys in the warm climates but that blue fabric on the Mitchell seats is the exact same as 1970 SnoJet snowmobiles seats had..same pattern and white piping too!. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif ~ Pete |
Re: vintage baby car seats?
the box address does not have a zip code, so that means it was printed before 1963 ...

HA, too funny....
I remember standing up on the front seat of our old Merc.... I remember because Pop had to slam on the brakes hard going through the underpass because someone cut over into our lane. His right arm shot over to pin me back against the seat while we screeched to avoid impact !! Good Times !! |
These seats, lawn darts & gym ropes... How are we still alive :)....
