OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
1 Attachment(s)
Hello to all I am new to this site .I am interested In any advice on a old original pro stock Nova that was know as the Black Knight the car is has been in my family for the past 20 years and is basically In the same condition as the day it was raced by Levi holmes the car is really amassing as it still has the same cage in the car we just had it updated it still has the Dana 60 rear with leaf springs and Lakewood slapper bars .has the same fiberglass nose and a glass trunk lid the rest of the car is all steel and it has all the original window glass the car still runs a big block but runs a auto trans instead of a four speed the only major change to the car was a 4"glass cowl hood and fresh paint the old girl still has what it takes to run 9.20s on the motor were not interested in selling the car .Here's where we are interested in some advice does the car have the history to make it worth repainting the car and have it letter up this the real deal http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/4115/racewaynews142.jpg
Thanks Walt |
Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
Regardless of what we say on this forum the car has enough sentimental value, and family history, that I think it would certainly be worth recreating the old paint job.

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
Have you spoken to Levi about the car? Levi was doing well last time I talked to him and he still races from time to time. He can probably give you all of the history on the car if that is what you're after. Cool car, either way.

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
WOW!!! In my opinion, yes! Put her back just like she used to be.
|
Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
I would put it back in old school race attire. Looks bad ass.

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
Walt, Very cool! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif on the original paint/lettering. I would paint both hoods just in case you want to switch them around at times...maybe even find some original slotted mags!

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
Welcome aboard. I would restore this car back to it's original glory and race it as such. I am quite sure I have photos of this car somewhere. I thought I remembered the logo on the door even before it completely loaded up so I am sure I do. How about some current photos? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
ABSOLUTELY worth restoring to her Glory Days! But PLEASE do the old girl a favor and have the lettering PAINTED on, not vinyl graphics. Todays vinyl is cheaper and easier, but a car like this deserves the extra effort of hand lettering.
There's still a few of us crusty old codgers that can handle a brush. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif I'm betting there's one in your area too. |

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
Gotta love these cars that were racers from day ONE. Do it up just like Levi had it. Lots of nostalgia venues out there to run it in and it will be much more appreciated.

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
Saw it run many times on Sunday afternoons at the Englishtown Pro Stock Eliminator shows. That would be a great trubute to a car that raced many early Pro Stock cars that gave way to guys like Blevins, Iacono, Heavy, Rotunda etc. just to name a few. They were all part of the dawn of PS racing. Not many Pro Stock novas were out there either in NHRA. Just 3-4 that I knew of. To much history IMO to be bracket racing with that old girl! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
100% agreement - put it back to the old look. I'd be surprised if that old photo vendor that sets up at York wouldn't have some back-n-the-day photos of this car..... CJoe probably bought 'em all! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
The car was featured in an early 70's east coast magazine. I may still have the issue. The article and photos show the car in a commercial warehouse/industrial area and some dirty burnout strips on the street. Levi and the crew were pictured. I'm older and not real good on the computer, and I do not have a scanner to get the article on here. Maybe I can get some help.

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
I have that magazine somewhere also! I will look. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
I would paint it and letter it the way it was way back when. To many of yesterdays pro stocks have lost there heritage to new paint, new style hood scoops and new style wheels

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
Put it back to BLACK KNIGHT !! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
You must do it back to the way it was.You should contact Levi, and ask him what it looked like the last time he ran it.Restore it to that configuration. Are you from the Newark NJ area?

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
Does the name on the rear Q. say " owner Tom Davis" ??

Re: OLD PRO STOCK NOVA
Nice Nova. I remember it well being an Englishtown regular back in the day. That car was in the February 1972 edition of Hot Cars magazine. Do you still have the fiberglass hood that was originally on it and if so are you looking to sell it?

I just ran across the magazine article on the black knight nova. It is featured in the February 72 Hot Cars and High Performance Stockers magazine on pages 22 and 23. The best times as of that issue was 10.11 et @ 137 mph. Sorry, just realized that this information was posted later, my bad. |
