? for the Scottsdale car show veterans....
OK, I'm going to be back in Phoenix Jan 15-26th for vacation. While I'm from Phoenix, for some inexplicable reason (maybe the heat got to me), I was never attended many of the car shows.
As there are several going on during this time, what do you recommend I attend throughout the week? I plan on hitting the Pavillions on Sat Jan 23rd, in an attempt to sell my '68 442 whose restoration has just finished (don't ask--I don't want to sell it, but have no choice ). https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif |

Re: ? for the Scottsdale car show veterans....
What Charley said, and for a free show, go to the Scottsdale Pavillions on Saturday starting around 4:00 or so. There will be at least a couple of hundred cars there on Saturday.

Re: ? for the Scottsdale car show veterans....
The Pavillions will most likly have the largest number of high quaility cars for sale or show during the auctions.
4:00? better be there in the morning..... last all day and into the night... oh and no gate admission or buyer/seller fees/sales tax. The best place to see or buy a high quality car. |
Re: ? for the Scottsdale car show veterans....
Yep...if you haven't got a space staked out by 6:30am you'll be out of luck!
Barrett-Jackson and Russo and Steele are the places to be Tom! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: ? for the Scottsdale car show veterans....
Thanks guys.
I noticed that tickets for Barrett-Jackson are a lot cheaper for days earlier in the week. Is this simply because the big dollar cars aren't for auction until Sat/Sun? Or is it just because it's a weekday and fewer people are able to attend? While I'm not bidding on any cars, I would like to see the top auction cars. I guess I'm just not sure what day the cars will arrive (they all need to be there by Tues, or not). I'm definitely doing the Pavillions on Sat, and it looks like I'll be there nice and early! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif So, my auction attendance will need to be Tues-Fri or Sun. |

Re: ? for the Scottsdale car show veterans....
I was there last year and will be back. It was -15º here in WI and 75º in AZ at the time. My snowbird buds tell me that even for AZ that was unusually warm. So don't count on the same weather.
We went to Pavillions and were blown away. Regulars said there were about 900 cars there. I did a rough estimate based on spots x aisles and it could be true. Like most cruise nites they do not allow for sale signs. Many cars I looked at had sale info discreetly placed inside. We also did Russo-Steele. Unlike B-J general admission does not get you into the auction tent; bidders only. But it really doesn't matter as cars are in line for some time. R-S also has lousy food & drink availability. It is really dry out there. You have to buy a drink "ticket" for $5 I believe then go to the bar where it is good for anything-even a Coke. At B-J there is plenty of resonably priced food & drink. B-J is far bigger and has more vendors & displays. There is another auction that weekend at the AZ Biltmore but it appears to be cats & dogs; few if any musclecars. It was a great time-can't wait! |

It's in the Pavillions shopping center. The cruise starts normally around 2pm-ish on every Saturday...but if you are in town during auction week...the cars are in place by 6:30am...and there are LOTS of cars there. A few years ago, they had over 1500 cars on the Saturday of Barrett Jackson Here's the address and the directions: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...directions.jpg Finally, go to this website to find out ALL of the cruises that are going on during the time that you are here! http://www.cruisinarizona.com/cruisenites.htm AND http://www.cruisinarizona.com/carshows.html |

[/ QUOTE ] Cars at all the AZ. auctions come an go throughout the auction week. Most are there early on but some don't arrive until later days. Once they are sold they can leave anytime. There will be transporters lined up to take cars away. When I was spending the entire week there, the first thing I would do is walk the cars in the tents to see what was new. The positions of the cars change in the tents as they are run at auction and then return to the tents or placed on transports to head to there new homes. Many people sit just outside or inside the sales tent or sit in the seated audience of the sales tent. At R-S only the bidders and badged bidders guests are allowed in the auction tent. |
Re: ? for the Scottsdale car show veterans....
MOST of the cars for B-J will be there early in the week, we usually go on one of the early days to avoid the crowds
On Saturday all the people that want to be seen and have no clue about cars are there (the "pretty" people and the ones that "have" to be at a happening), kind of a pain, but there is a lot of "professional" eye candy walking around with their "dates" (nudge nudge, if you catch my drift), so if you are into that Saturday is best https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif Our house is located half way between B-J and Pavilions https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif here is an overhead of them both to get the "feel" of the location, A is Westworld /B-J Auction site, B = Pavilions car show and red dot on Shea & 101 / 90th street is Uncle Sams, one of the best low cost, casual food places in the area, real Phillie cheese steaks (get extra cheese & you really only need a half a sandwich unless you are sharing a whole one with two HUNGRY people), pizza, wings and after 9pm every night $2.99 pitchers (75¢ gasses) of COLD beer: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26...n/Picture4.png here is the Valley with the airport & C = R-S auction shown: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a26...n/Picture5.png a hint for traffic When you leave B-J go to the east and take Thompson Peak south to Cactus or Shea, avoid the 101 & Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd areas |
Re: ? for the Scottsdale car show veterans....
they just had an article in the paper warning people of the traffic at Hayden Road/Frank LLoyd Wright Blvd/101 intersection, it will be gridlock ...
