1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
I don't know if this post belongs here, if not sorry. I have a low mileage 67 L-88 Corvette, 1 of 20 made. I have owned this car and about 20 others for almost 35 years. My question is does any body have a clue as to the value of this car. I have a guy begging me for it to go in a huge collection. I will try to attach pics. web page

Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
i was at the rm auction in arizona 2007 and they had a 67 l88 there. i believe it was originally raced by lorenzo? it was fully restored with born with mechanicals and i believe it sold for 1.4 million. imop i feel the 67 l88 was the epitome of chevy performance. last year of the sexiest bodystyle and first year of the screaming l88. i would keep that l88 in your hands!

Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
I agree. A large tank L88 coupe would be a keeper.
|
Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
A car of this caliber is only as good as it's documentation and it's acceptance as real by the Corvette community. A real Big Tank L88 however would be priceless and my own estimite would be $4m plus.

Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
Well, I know a little about these Big-Tank Mid-years. My father had a 1963 Z06 Split Window with the Fuel Injection, Big Brakes and 36-Gallon gas tank. I know they only made two (2!) '67 Tankers. One is a well-known White/Blue interior coupe with the 327/350HP L-79 engine and I can't remember if the second '67 has ever been accounted for. If you really do have this car with documentation, you probably have the most desirable and most valuable Corvette on the planet Earth (except fot the '63 Grand Sports). 1967 L-88's are million-dollar cars are yours would be the only one with the 36-Gallon gas tank. I'm begging you to PLEASE post pictures.

how about posting the sign as well so we can read it.

Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
Ronald,
Is the yellow car in your picture, the L-88 you speak of with a "Big Tank"? If so, I believe you could only order a big tank in a Coupe body style and not a Convertible as the yellow car in the picture appears to be. Bill Pankiw |
Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
This is one of those threads that will end up being very entertaining. I honestly look forward to watching its progression.

Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
------Bill is of course correct. An adventerous guy could make a 36gal. tank fit a roadster, but there never was one built by Chevrolet. I have seen two 67s over the years that had been retrofitted with "big-tanks". Both were dedicated race cars, and in no way were delivered with the large tank!!! As far as your roadster is concerned we would need to know about documentation, etc. to know how to value it. Paperwork is absolutely everything on any L/88, weather its a 67,8,or 9 .......Bill S

OF THE 20 CARS MADE, ONE L-88 CAR IS UNACCOUNTED FOR. ARE YOUR LAST 2 VIN DIGETS 36 ? I HAVE HEARD THERE ARE THREE BIG TANK 67 CARS. THE RED / WHITE / BLUE DANA CHEVROLET LE MANS RACE CAR, A WHITE WITH BLUE INTERIOR, AND THE BLUE CAR YOU REFER TO ABOVE THAT HAS APPEARED AT BLOOMINGTON GOLD SEVERAL TIMES. THIS L-88 MAY BE THE 4TH. THE 67 LEMANS CAR IS FOR SALE SINCE LAST AUGUST. AND I BELIEVE IT IS THE HOLY GRAIL OF 67 L-88'S. PRICE IS IN THE 2.5 TO 3.5M RANGE. HAPPY TO HELP IF I CAN IT WILL TAKE A SPECIAL PERSON TO BUY THE CAR. JIM GESSNER |
Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
------I should have said that I had seen 2 "63 to 67" Corvette "roadsters" converted to big tank cars over the years. Sorry for the unintentional miscue! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif........Bill S

Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
I can understand owning a 67 L88 tanker and keeping it to yourself. If, on the other hand, you decide to tell the world you own an original low mile 67 L88 tanker it would seem prudent to be ready to prove the claim undeniably.
This 67 L88 factory tanker that is claimed here is bull [censored]. I will be forthright and magnanimous in my apology when proven wrong. Until then...it's Horse [censored]. |
Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
Well said 737Driver and my thoughts exactly. Black Book shows two NO3 tankers and 20 L88's in 67. I doubt many of that combination have flown under the NCRS radar for all these years.

[/ QUOTE ] Come on guys, you and the original poster are both from NC so I am guessing you both know the truth of the car and its owner? First the car was in question, a fair question mind you, now its owner is in doubt. Why all the secrets? My guess is that the original poster is not the owner but the one wanting to be a buyer and is looking for a confirmation on what would be a fair price. I am also going to guess that the real reason there is no more talk and or truth is that you don't want the public to learn of what could be a very rare find worth more than perhaps you could get it for. Of course if I am correct neither the facts of the car nor its true owner will be shared, least until a deal is done. Call it a hunch but I think I am right. There will be many skeptics, rightfully so, however I think that there is a glimmer of potential I am right. |

He can figure it out from there. So he has no need to offer any additional info. Many people are very private about what they have and feel no need to to volunteer any additional info regardless of how nosy any of the rest of us are about the car. I respect the privacy of others in these cases. |
Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
I'm certainly not knowledgeable enough to comment on these Corvettes, except that such a machine is the ultimate Vette in my opinion. I also can't comment on whether this is all "smoke and mirrors" or not. I do know he posted the same picture in another thread back on February 24, 2009 essentially saying "He would love to have these cars". Who knows what is going on. I for one don't really care, but I'm always open for a good story or car find.

Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
Who knows..Maybe they are his Dads ? In his profile he shows a pic of a RS Camaro. If you had one of the L88's wouldn't you show a pic of it ? Maybe his family does have a L88 but not a big tank car ? I remember when we booted a guy off of the site that was claiming to own just about every car that was in the Dave C collection. He was even showing people pics of Daves cars.

Re: 1967 Big Tank L-88 Corvette
Is the pic he linked gone for everyone else too?.
I went back to take a another look at it as I wanted to look closer at the placard on the wall that noted a '67 Vin and options.. If the pic is gone did anyone else check it out and/or note if it was for a coupe or roadster?. I think there's a good chance the guy may be for real!. http://s458.photobucket.com/albums/qq305/ambrola/ https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif ~ Pete -------------------- I like real cars best...the REAL real ones! |
