1st 70 Camaro ??
I seem to remember an article that was about the 70 Camaro VIN no.1...apparently was discovered at Smoky's shop and it was an LS-6 transplnt?? Does any one else remember this?? or am I losin' it again?? haha
Where is this car now?? I assumed it would show up in magazines when finished. I have not seen it restored... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: 1st 70 Camaro ??
No, you're completely sane. Number 1 was a Norwood built six-cylinder car that went to Smokey Yunick to be tested with a GM-supplied LS6, M-22, rear disc brake and cowl plenum set-up and special suspension pieces for possibilities of running such a combo for FIA homologation. I don't have pics on computer but have seen articles on the car. I think the resto is complete but I stand to be corrected.

Re: 1st 70 Camaro ??
Car was sold to a collector/restorer in phx,az. car was restored and for sale. not sure who is current owner.

Re: 1st 70 Camaro ??
Last time I talked to the owner (a year or 2 ago) the car was having some work done in Indiana. Not sure where it is or who owns it now.

Re: 1st 70 Camaro ??
I took this photo at the McDorman show back in September.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...man9-09023.jpg I think that this is the LOS car? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif Anyway, it was here in Columbus a couple of months ago, and I don't think that old Bob has sold it since then. |
Re: 1st 70 Camaro ??
Is that normal, to have no VIN plate and the Vin to be stamped on the body plate on a "Pilot" car. Or is the VIN missing and it is body # 100001?
|
Re: 1st 70 Camaro ??
David Tom does still co-own the car with an associate. It is in Indiana being enjoyed by that person, currently. The VIN tag was removed by GM even before it went to Smoky's because it was never to be registered or sold. It still has never been registered. The cowl tag is a reproduction of what was believed to have been on it based on the research. The body numbers are still intact as I understand it. The white car is purported to be the LOS 0001 car.

Re: 1st 70 Camaro ??
you are talking about two different cars. the white camaro is van nuys camaro. The silver camaro, cowl tag body #1 is a norwood car with no vin# tag. Not sure which car smokey had?

Re: 1st 70 Camaro ??
Smokey had David Tom's car, the NOR car with no VIN or tag, but the hidden VIN's and the cert tag.
