Ill have to look and see if there is one there

I did check the crank and it had a pilot bushing in it.

I believe CPD is an auto trans code.

The chart I listed shows this: CPD 1971 Chevelle 454 365 Mt LS-5 , 72 shows AT.
Take a look at the chart I listed. It may be wrong?

Re: 71 engine stamp decode needed

I think CPA is the MT code and CPD is the Auto.

Re: 71 engine stamp decode needed

The Nasty site listing as shown indicates both CPA and CPD were MT codes for '71..

Considering the casting date it's probably a '71 but get the Vin sequence if it's there and count 8 digts back from the end for the model year also the plant digit and last six may help indicate which car line it was originally in..

Chevrolet by the Numbers shows CPD as T400 LS5 in Chevelle, Monte, and Passenger cars in 71.

OK, so I am NOT up to speed with 71 part #'s....

What would be the correct Heads, Intake, Distributor #'s etc etc that would make this a correct engine again?

My references show CPD as a '71 454/365hp with TH400.
