Day 2 69 Z/28

I brought this car home from San Diego 6 years ago. It's a Norwood built X77D80 car that was raced out there. It still has it's original engine and my brother-in-law, Dennis and I finally got it ready and running. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Mark:

It's kind of a hot rod. The stripes are wrong so, we didn't get lost on the detail stuff. I grew up about 4 blocks from Nickey so, after I added the new Hooker headers, I couldn't help but sticker it up.

Very nice car and looks period correct. I like the silver grill idea too. Sticks out more than the stripes being wrong. Nice car and great color! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: Day 2 69 Z/28

I'll defend the black grille by saying isn't that what Day 2 is all about? Scenario: Maybe on Day 2 the young new owner wanted a more sinister look so he rattle-canned the grille black. Day 2 is the process of getting away from factory stock and not necessarily doing it like everyone else would. Are we now going to ruin the freedom of Day 2 modifications by limiting it to just speed equipment and wheels but the grill has to be the correct silver or it's wrong?? I beseech you my fellow car lovers: Let us not kill Day 2 with too many "rules"!

And let us understand a major tenet of our hobby: Of course you would do it differently but it's not your car!

I yield the remainder of my time. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

Beautiful. Just beautiful. Wouldn't change a thing.

Gotta agree with Bill about the black grill.....leave it. It's shame somebody can't post pictures of a car they're proud of without having an "expert" showing how smart they are and pointing out things that are wrong with the car. Same thing just happened with C. Lill's lift-off hood Hemi Challenger and it's grill color. This Camaro looks great.....thanks for posting photos!

Seems like it was the thing to do back in the day by having a black grill, for my Z too had one when i purchased it.I just had to repaint it silver because to me it didn't look right.Like Sam said,it stands out a lot more.Didn't mean anything bad about your car Ed,it's a great looking car.

Superb Car!!! Drive it and enjoy it just the way it is without changing a thing! Of course, I may be a bit biased towards that color combo....

And Golly Gosh, if you get beat up about a little old black grill on your awesome ride, what will "they" say about my Day 2 69 Z.... with a black grill, wiremesh headlight covers, and hood locks too???!?? I feel so ashamed......

Well no matter what, some of "us" still really appreciate all your efforts and hard work. Thanks for sharing!

Great looking Z! I love the day 2 look, I have owned mine since 79 and here it is today. I just put 3.5 Torque Tech exhaust on it. I also put in the 3 pt Lakewood.

My favorite color combo. Awesome car, i hope you drive the wheels off it. Any pics of it in "as raced" condition? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif

OK, OK, Leave the grill black! Was not a cut https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif, just an observation. Nice car! Even though this is a day 2 car, you should turn the air cleaner seal inside out and mount it properly, it will seal much better to the hood that way https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Indiana Dreamin'

The car is out for the first time in six years. This is my brother-in-law, Dennis and my best friend, Greg (AZ lawyer) just out the other day Indiana Dreamin' and burnin'up the T/As! Greg was in for the ND vs. Michigan Game in Ann Arbor.

This my shop. The Z/28 was tucked in the back for the last six years.

Re: Indiana Dreamin'

It didn't take too much to get it up and on the road. Easy for me to say as Dennis spent two days wet sanding and buffing. After the carburetor rebuild, new headers, gas tank, exhaust, rear springs, steering box rebuild, valve covers, ignition wires, battery, radiator, steering wheel, Tach and gas gauge, assorted wiring... Well, I guess it did take some doing but look at the smiles on their faces...priceless!

HA! Sorry Sam, I was kinda' kidding with my 'defense of the black grille' post and didn't mean to get you in "trouble." Yes, your car is one of the nicer Day 2 cars here--you need to post a photo of it in this thread and redeem yourself! Oh, and now you need to shoot your grille satin black.

Reminds me of the '69 Z that John Buttera's son resto-modded 30 years ago--I think in Car Craft or Hot Rod.

Great looking car by the way. Love the Day 2 touches. And the colour. My kinda car - you can lean up against it. Be great to see it with some G60-15 Polyglas GTs on the back and F60s on the front....that'd be a Day 2 Sweet Spot right there too....probably wouldn't ride or handle as nice but would look like Summer of '69 fer sure. Congrats.
