The Dirty Banana!!!
Here is my 1961 impala sport coupe aka bubbletop, new mexico car, very sold and very original. I just pulled out the original carpet to get a look at the floors.

Re: The Dirty Banana!!!
Great car, great color; personally I prefer the '61 bubbletops over the '62's. What are your plans for the car?

Re: The Dirty Banana!!!

Re: The Dirty Banana!!!
So what was that shade of yellow known as in '61?
|
Re: The Dirty Banana!!!
Sorry to let ya guys down with the title https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif The color is Corna Cream and the interior is Fawn Beige. The car is a 348 car. The car is going to get a correct restoration red oxide primer over spray and all the markings. I am tempted (Havent decided yet) to put some day two type items on the car such as Wide Chrome reversed wheels rear skinnies in front, Stahl headers, vintage cheater slicks, etc.....
|
Re: The Dirty Banana!!!
Yeah, chrome steelies would look great. Black stock steel wheels with tall whitewalls in back and smaller whitewalls in front would look cool too. I'm jealous!

Re: The Dirty Banana!!!
That looks like a good car you got there. I noticed the 348 emblem on the trunk also! There's a body mount behind the driver's side rear wheel well that just LOVES to rust out and get into the trunk but your car looks extremely solid there. Corona Cream is a spectacular color and looks great on these cars! As far as wheels go, I'm visualizing a set Chrome Reversal John Milner Specials with Radir Piecrust slicks on the back. This combined with a fresh coat of Corona Cream, snow white Fenderwell headers and a nose-up-in-the-air stance, and you got a car that'll draw such a crowd on cruise night, that you'll have trouble opening the door & getting out of it! Great purchase!

Re: The Dirty Banana!!!
61 is possibly my favorite year of Impala. It's tough between that and a 59, but I think a 61 wins.

Re: The Dirty Banana!!!
Nice Impala! I like the shot of your garage cabinets too, very nice garage decor https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif. Good luck with the car https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif
Too bad Frank Zappa and the Mothers didn't have a song for fruits with all the fruit names here.... You can still call any Vegetable though https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Tommy https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |

Gave the impala a bit of a bath/degreasing!!! http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p...u/100_1909.jpg [/ QUOTE ] That's it !! Stop right there!! Get it cranking and safe to drive but PLEASE leave that gorgeous body alone!! |
Re: The Dirty Banana!!!
I agree! My Tuxedo Black 1962 'scayne is in about the same original condition and I'm leaving the outside appearance alone. It's just gonna be a fun car for burnin' some rubber and rippin' up the dragstrip! Just good, clean, cheap(kinda) fun. I think WE ALL KNOW how these projects can snowball into beautiful, but time-consuming and extremely expensive restorations! 'Ya lay some nice paint on it and then the interior is not up to par, etc, etc, etc!

Re: The Dirty Banana!!!
Patina engine shots now... please!

Re: The Dirty Banana!!!
Thanks guys!!!! Ya its a tough call. Part of me wants to drive it as is and the other part wants to strip down to nothing and restore. Ill get more pics when I get a chance.
|
Re: The Dirty Banana!!!
That would be one sweet project...and one nice looking 61 when done. I would restore it... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
OK guys, go ahead and rip me a new one.. |
