1969 Trans Am Barn Find
I have been lurking here forever but thought I finally have a car worthy of posting. I have always been a Firebird guy since I was young and have always wanted a 1968 400 4 speed conv or a 1969 4 speed Trans Am.
Well I finally found the Trans Am in January. I picked it up from the original owner. It has 114,500 miles on it and has not been driven since 1982. All of the upper surfaces are original paint but there have been spot repairs around the bottom from various dings when it was his daily driver until parked in 82. It is complete including all ramair pans, manifolds, etc. It has original carb, intake, alternator, starter, etc. It has the original exhaust including rusted out muffler. Luckily the car has hardly any rust at all. The trunk and floor pans are perfect. The original polyglas spare and rally wheel are on the front drivers side of the car. Here are pics of the car on the trailer coming home. http://www.carbuffs.com/tatrailer1.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/tatrailer2.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/tatrailer3.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/tatrailer4.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/tatrailer5.jpg It has great documentation including: window sticker, warranty info, protecto plate, owners manual, bill of sale, receipt for deposit, receipt for DMV, pre-delivery inspection, and all registration cards from 1969-1979. http://www.carbuffs.com/docs1.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/docs2.jpg All of the interior is original, well, except for the wonderful speaker cutouts. The car did not come with gauges so the owner installed them in 1969. He installed the 8 track in 1972. Everything works great including the original AM radio. http://www.carbuffs.com/taint1.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/taint2.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/tatach.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/ta8track.jpg Here are the as found engine pics. http://www.carbuffs.com/taengine.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/tarapan.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/tahoodinside.jpg The trunk is very clean. http://www.carbuffs.com/tatrunk.jpg Here are some undercarriage shots. http://www.carbuffs.com/tabottom.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/tabottom2.jpg Here is a pic of it waiting to get road ready again in my warehouse/dealership. http://www.carbuffs.com/tawarehouse2.jpg I will save you all of the boring pics of getting a car rolling again after 27 years. I am sure most of you have been there. I will post the current pics of the car tomorrow. Here is a link to the whole story and links to over 1,200 pics for all of you gluttons for punishment. Thanks for following along, Richie 69 Trans Am thread |

Re: 1969 Trans Am Barn Find
Thanks for the welcome! Here are some pics I especially like, the original owner Sam, driving the car for the first time in 27 years. He has some great stories. I also had him sign the decklid.

The car has turned out to be a great driver. I drive it to work most days, take my kids to daycare in it, and run my errands as well. It sits in the Sam's Club parking lot quite often. The best part is everyone thinks it is fake so no one messes with it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif http://www.carbuffs.com/p1010225.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/p1010219.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/p1010220.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/p1010222.jpg http://www.carbuffs.com/p1010224.jpg |

Re: 1969 Trans Am Barn Find
Welcome to the site and Congrats on scoring such a cool and unmolested car! Congrats to the owner too, for preserving it for all those years.
I also want to say thanks for the pics of your warehouse; as an avid bike collector, (I am down to just 35-40 now, down from over 100 at one point!) I really loved seeing your bikes on display above all of those beautiful pedal cars and other fine cars. Bashton MCACN Managing Member |
Re: 1969 Trans Am Barn Find
Oh...and I gotta ask; is that a 63 or early 64 on the lower left and what tape do you have in the 8-track player?
Hope you are jamming out to some Foghat or maybe Deep Purple when you take the kids to day-care! Bashton MCACN Managing Member |

Re: 1969 Trans Am Barn Find
Wow. Really interesting. I lived in Santa Barbara for many years and was part of the cruising scene there in the mid-to-late '70s. I never knew there was a '69 Trans-Am that was sold new through the local Pontiac dealership. I do recall one time seeing a '69 Trans-Am parked behind the Granada Theatre (in SB) late at night on New Years Eve and it was either the late '70s or early '80s. I never saw it again and assumed it was not a local car. Maybe it was this one??? Thanks for posting the pics and info. I have a Hughes dealership frame somewhere but I'm not sure how nice it is. If you need it, I'll take a look.

That is a July 1963 Stingray I bought from the original owner. My Boston 8-track was the only casualty on the cars maiden voyage. My dad just sent me all of his 8-tracks so I now have a great selection to choose from. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif |

I ran into the Ranchero in Pleasanton a few Goodguys ago. It is completely restored and looks great. Glad to see your still into the cars. I look forward to chatting with you here. Richie |

My front is broken and the rear is missing. Let me know. Thanks, Richie |
Re: 1969 Trans Am Barn Find
I would love to see how the Ranchero came out! I really wanted to go through that car but did not have the space at the time(as you know). Besides, there is nothing like a car going back to the original owners! Congrats on the find!

Thanks, Richie [/ QUOTE ] Here it is with a license plate and plate bracket, all of which came off of a '69 Z/28 that was in town. If you like the frame and want it, PM me with your address. I'm going to hang on to the plate and bracket as that needs to go back to the former owner. -Jon |
