A Red What? Challenger or Roadrunner?

Re: Wanted 69 RoadRunner or 70 Challenger
There is no car. It was a joke. You said, "no red cars" twice. Sorry for the confusion. I guess red cars may be OK afterall.

Real Hemi Challenger that came from the factory with the N94 hood. Two Hemi Challengers were built with the hood, my red one and a black one that I'm told was destroyed. A member here used to own this car. Sold new at Vissing's Dodge in Jeffersonville In. I have letter from William Vissing telling me that a salesman ordered the car for drag racing. Orig fender tag, build sheet, engine. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/400544-tn_scan0002.jpg

Re: Wanted 69 RoadRunner or 70 Challenger
I also have a letter from the orig owner written in 2004 telling how he had returned from Viet Nam in 1969 and ordered a red Hemi Charger 4 speed car. In winter of 69-70 he learned how to handle running SS/DA but wanted a newer Cuda -Challenger type car, started working part time at Vissings, they let him order the Challenger as a demo car with his promise that he would buy it within a year. Ran 11:50's on sicks with lots of mods...

Re: Wanted 69 RoadRunner or 70 Challenger
N96 was for the Shaker Hood which all 426 Hemis came with, now with the exception as we see it. I never knew this. I have been a Mopar guy my whole life. Learn something new every day, thanks for sharing! Cool history to boot!

Re: Wanted 69 RoadRunner or 70 Challenger
The N96 shaker hood was standard on the Hemi Cuda but an option on the Hemi Challanger. The "Raisin Bran" (2-Scoop) hood was standard on the Challenger. In mid-1970 there was an issue with the Challenger shaker hood. I think it was a problem with the crash test results and the hood slicing through the windshield and decapitating people, but I may be wrong, and it was stopped for a while until the inner structure was altered to permit the hood to fold in half in an impact instead of shearing the hinge bolts and acting as a guillotine. I believe the fibreglass T/A hood was used as an alternative for the people in the know who knew the option code existed. Otherwise the car defaulted back to the 2-scoop hood.

Re: Wanted 69 RoadRunner or 70 Challenger
Man. I was hoping for a bit more hostile response. Where am I supposed to go with that? Well, I am happy that she likes like car. Damn it!

Re: Wanted 69 RoadRunner or 70 Challenger
Even I like that Mini. I'm 6'3" and fit in it fine. It is a blast to drive and the only thing I have had to replace since new is rear brake pads once.

Mike, any interest in a 70 'Cuda, Plum 440+6/4spd?
Pretty nice unrestored car. |
Re: Wanted 69 RoadRunner or 70 Challenger
Charlie the resto looks sweet !! I have seen a Blk/Blk 4 speed Hemi Challenger with TA hood in a warehouse in south Florida.
When I was looking at the fender tag with Galen on the phone, he never knew about TA hood cars at the time. The air cleaner and base are killer to fit a TA hood !! Congrats on the motor !!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: Wanted 69 RoadRunner or 70 Challenger
Those pics are before resto. When finished it will have the plain wheels with little caps. Galen had told me the only other Hemi car with the TA hood had been destroyed. Was the car you were looking at real ? Is it the one destroyed ?

Re: Wanted 69 RoadRunner or 70 Challenger
Clearly a Closet Mopar Dude...
I think you should restore it to exactly the way it was in that 1973 picture and then, give it to me. Bashton MCACN Managing Member |
Re: Wanted 69 RoadRunner or 70 Challenger
That Red Hemi-Challenger was owned by me up until the summer of 2007. In the family for 20 years. Sad day when I sold it! Divorce forced my hand. N94 on the tag and sheet were code for T/A hood.
Its nice to know it ended up in the hands of someone like you Charley. I shot you a PM. If you would like more info on the cars history. I left you a PM with my cell. I would love to share it with you! Patrick |
