Winter Nationals, Pomona, CA

One of my buddies made the trek to CA from MD for the NHRA Winter Nationals and is #3 qualifier at this point! Wayne Totaro. Told me yesterday that he let off at 1000 ft and still went 1.15 under. That's flying!

http://www.nhra.com/events/results01.aspx

Now I have work to do on the new Turquoise rocketship to keep up with him!

Looks like it's gonna be a rain out. At least there are two weeks between this event and the Phoenix event...

I am officially "hooked up" for all three days in Phoenix (ya gotta love the radio folks here) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

I thought it never rains in Southern Ca?? My buddy Wayne is spending a lot of time in the NHRA museum.

Re: Winter Nationals, Pomona, CA

It's only raining because the NHRA is trying to run a race there... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

It better not rain here in two weeks!

Mr Sharin...not sure what you are asking? I should be able to get the pics that you want though...

Just heard that Bobby DeArmond left for home, Gallup, NM and he's still in! A bunch of weather on the way to the Flagstaff area???

It was just hailing here in Peoria...just northwest of Phoenix...

According to Weather.com...there is a pretty good sized shower just below the dragstrip in Whittier...

Re: Winter Nationals, Pomona, CA

Just talked with Jim Meador, D/SA '67 Camaro. He told me that many threw in the towel because of the weather and headed home.......even though they were still in the eliminator! Nice way to start the year for NHRA.....

I wouldn't want the NHRA to go under but I do think some healthy competition would be good for them. They've focused on the Pro categories so much lately that the little guy feels like the red-headed stepchild. Maybe it's time for this!

I've talked with Rod Saint a few times lately and he seems like a stand-up guy. Being a former member of an AHRA Sanctioned strip, I'm happy to see the AHRA come back at any level.

I wish him well! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

They're suppose to finish the race today. Rain, rain and more rain. My buddy Wayne is having such a good time after driving almost 3000 miles. Cooped up in his motorhome for over a week!

Rough way to start the NHRA season out. Probably NO spectators at this point. Not good for business. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif

Re: Winter Nationals, Pomona, CA

Weather looks good for today, at least according to weather.com. Being from Seattle I have been to these delayed finishes, small crowds and a fun day to be a spectator if you can get the time off work! It's certainly tough on the racers though.

How about a link, Rusty?

Go to the main page for NHRA and hit the multimedia link. Then punch the 'Listen Live' link.

Thanks Rusty, it's working great. Those pro stock guys are FLYING! Greg Anderson ran a 6.52 in the last round, just needs a 6.59 (I think) to back it up as a new record.

Stock class is running right now, guys are breaking out all over.

Seattle Sam 02-11-2009 03:07 AM

Re: Winter Nationals, Pomona, CA

Anderson backed up his record with a 6.55, but lost on a hole shot to Mike Edwards. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/ooo.gif

Sam, did you hear what they said on the air about the Comp guys going home.....leaving 12 single runs ? im sure they all have real jobs to attend to unlike the pros.....going to be interesting this year.....Greg Anderson is just unreal !!

Re: Winter Nationals, Pomona, CA

i would think the comp guys left so they would not blow there index for the year.
