Jeff Wood's (SSjeff427) Motion Chevelle Tribute
I enjoy muscle cars and have always had a fondness for them for as long as I can remember. I was not fortunate enough growing up to have one, just to gaze at them on every occasion waiting until I could afford to have one of my own.
Having owned many, many driver quality cars over the past 20 years, my first was a 1967 GTO I purchased while I was in the Navy, I had never owned a really nice car. I had owned and sold a lot of desireable and rare cars, but never restored one. About 4 years ago, I decided that I was ready and in a position where I could build a car like I wanted without taking away from the family. My wife was supportive as I had bought and sold most of the cars I wanted to keep to earn additional income to allow us to have and do the extras. I wanted something unique, a conversation piece, that not everyone else would have. I thought of several ideas and realized that I had only seen 2 Motion cars in my life here in the south. Although I knew about them I really wasn't well versed in their history so I started to learn. I found that I would truly have something unique and something people rarely get a chance to see, even in a clone if done correct. The appeal for me in making a tribute came in realizing that not just anyone can do it. You can't open a catalog, write a check and have a dead on clone without a lot of work and perserverance. So, 3 years later and looking for MOTION stuff online and at swap meets, countless hours of blood sweet and tears, I have what I think to be the best tribute car to Baldwin Motion that has been made, (My opinion of course), and I respect the fact that some of you may feel that it is blasphemy for me to make it. Just know that I did not make it for resale, and it is not going to pop up in some auction with a "STORY". It is what it is and that is good enough for me. P.S. Not only is it correct in appearance, it has ran a 11.42 backed up with an 11.46. I wanted to be within the 11.50 guarantee Motion Performance touted. Beautiful car Jeff, Congratulations. If you don't mind me asking, what is the story on the gas station. That is an incredible backdrop for your killer car.

Beautiful car Jeff, Congratulations. If you don't mind me asking, what is the story on the gas station. That is an incredible backdrop for your killer car. [/ QUOTE ] If you are familiar with the commercials you see on TV for OSMOSE treated wood, the "YELLA FELLA"? Well that is an old gas station and oil distribution in Abbeville, AL where his business Great Southern Wood is headquartered. He refurbished the old station and made it into one of his accounting offices. The pumps work and actually hold 96 and 100 octane fuel as he is a muscle car guy as well. He also owns close by an old drug store restored and set to the 50's and 60's called Huggin Molly's. They serve great food and soft serve, floats, all the good ole stuff. We get together and cruise up to have dinner and hang out at the station often. |
Re: Jeff Wood's (SSjeff427) Motion Chevelle Tribu
Just wanted to add that the car has manual disc brakes. Nice setup to have with that size camshaft and a serious lack of vacuum to support power brakes. This is the second car I have had with manual disc, in my opinion, it is the only way to go. The feedback thru the pedal is so much better and you have such a better feel for the braking.
The other was a 69 Camaro RS/SS 396 4spd car, but I think it was converted to manual. This car came equipped that way originally. |

Re: Jeff Wood's (SSjeff427) Motion Chevelle Tribute
It has been a little over a year now since the economic turndown cost be my job, house, and that old chevelle. I miss a lot of things from back then, but I really miss that old heap! I sure hope the guy who bought it is enjoying it as much as I miss it.

Re: Jeff Wood's (SSjeff427) Motion Chevelle Tribute
Oh man, sorry bro.
I lost pretty much everything myself in the downturn as well, including my house, an investment house, and all of my retirement except for about $5k when my employer bank was taken over by the Fed. God Speed Jeff, I am sure this, too, will pass and better times are ahead. |
