Lesnar vs Couture
I think if Lesnar is able to get Couture down than he can use his power and wear Randy out. However, the longer it goes, the better the chance for Lesnar to slip up and get caught.
Opinions? |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Finally, a fight with interest...the last few UFC PPV's haven't held our attention. I'm interested to see how far along in his development Lesnar is...he's freaky athletic for his size, and has a good wrestling background, but this ain't Randy's first rodeo...either has a puncher's chance, Randy has the experience, Lesnar the youth & sheer mass/athleticism...*if* I was a betting man, I'd say Lesnar by decision...
[Edit: just saw your locale, so I *assume* you'll be pulling for your alum, Brock!] |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
People forget Randy came from Greco. The guy is a genetic wonder, and an exceptionally intelligent fighter. He will put on yet another clinic of 44 year old humble guy takes loudmouth 20 year younger guy to school.
Classiest guy ever to grace the octagon IMO |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Cool to see some UFC/MMA stuff on here.
I am hoping Couture takes it for us over-40 guys. Did anyone see Urijah Faber get his clock cleaned last week? That was a shocker. |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
As much as I would like to see Lesnar win, I would bet that it will be just like his first fight... over-aggressive attack and a small slip up that will allow Couture to submit him out. Probably even in the first round.
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Urijah What a shocker !! I never thought he would go down like that ! Did you SEE the elbow he was throwing at the time of the knock out ?? If he connected with that elbow: Lights out!
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Urijah is a badazz, that's for sure.
He will be back, no question. That guy who won (Brown I think) had some seriously heavy hands. Did anyone see Rashad KO Liddell? That was brutal. Time for Chuck to hang it up?? |

Did anyone see Rashad KO Liddell? That was brutal. Time for Chuck to hang it up?? [/ QUOTE ] Yes and Yes...his last Tito fight was a joke, but prior to the Rampage fight I saw/read interviews that indicated Chuck was enjoying the night life a little too much, and sure enough it showed up against Rampage, and then Jardine...I'm not sure *WHAT* was wrong with Silva when Chuck defeated him, but the loss to Rashard was no surprise...we always chuckled at his post-fight "shout out" about which club the after party was being held at, but I'm not so sure he hasn't been focusing more on that lately than fighting... Anyone else looking forward to the upcoming GSP v. BJ Penn fight... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
yeah, Chuck collected his checks and should probally fade away (Tito Ortiz, are you listening?). kind of reminds me of Roy Jones Jr. probally the greatest fighter in his prime ever. now he has a still of his nose facing the opposite direction of his face. back on point...
Lesnar probally should stand and trade with Randy. Randy doesnt have knockout power anymore. let this fight get boring and then shoot with the power Lesnar has shown against Mir and Crazyhorse. anyone see that look on Crazyhorses face after he got blasted and saw 260lbs of pure evil charging him with a shoulder?? thats the intimidation Lesnar needs to give Randy. |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Urjah looked much flatter in his conditioning than he did against Little Evil. Even thought the weigths were differnet BJ Penn dispatched with Jens with no problem at all yet Jens took Urjah 25 min down the road. I called the Brown fight . I had seen that guy fight before and thought faber looked a little smaller than usual and was concerned because he has been so consistent. Plus the WeC is a small pond. I felt Urjah should have made the Tyson Griffin fight happen . He beat enough guys that he should have wanted to beat the only guy who beat him and he never wanted that fight .Urjah was way too nonchelant in that fight with a guy like Brown. Sure he got caught but not sure the outcome would have been any different . Now we will see the real Urjah in the re match . Torres and Condit are the class of the WEC
Randy has not fought for a while . And Lesner is developing his MMA skills. I think brock is a good athelete so maybe he can make it happen but randy is a great athelete . Remember , Frank Mir , who has never been the same since his accident, just bided his time and submited Brock in his first UFC fight. Brock got 250K for that fight and UFC vet Mir got 45K plus a 40K bonus for the win. Lesnars bonus would have been another 200k had he won... i like randy's experience but if Brock has learned anything in the last six months or so he could make it happen .. this one is a toss up and I wouldn't be surprised by anything.. I kind of think Brock may win though, hope i am wrong I loved Kimbo geting cooled by a three inch right cross that got dragged across his face by a guy who couldn't get out of the UFC " House' with out gettin beaten... |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
I am going to have to pull for Couture, After watching such a great sportsman for all of these years, I just can't go for a guy that's only fought twice in the octagon and lost one of them to a mediocre fighter in my opinion, I know Randy was pissed at Dana White for a year because he wanted to fight "Fador" who I believe will cash both Lesnar and Couture when he gets a chance to unify the heavyweight championship, I hope you guys seen Fador cash Tim Silvia "cake walk" if I ever seen one, Urjah was a true sportsman after his loss and he will be back,
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
I think every great fighter has one great fight left in him. Couture will have to fight a very smart fight and take advantage of what Lesnar gives him.. Couture will choke him out in two...
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Who's watching this weekend?
I am planning on it, either in a bar or on the 'net as I found a way to watch it for free....shhhhhh....don't tell Dana. |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
I have not missed a UFC tournament yet. My father and I are big fans and have bean watching since I bought a Primestar dish and was able to get UFC 3 live.
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Ha! Primestar...at one time that was *the* satellite...my how far we've come!
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Hemibee, i was a huge Pat Smith fan from the very first UFC's. I will be watching at a friends house, and yes, us Minnesotans stick together (GO BROCK)!
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
I remember the first one, when they had to hold it in a high school gym or something like that because the state(Ala?)revoked their lic to hold it at an arena. Royce Gracie fought Art Jimerson(a WBA cruiserweight) who wore a boxing glove on one hand..it was over very quickly and opened a lot of people's eyes to the "valetudo" system. My dad started me in forms when i was seven, and I had been training in Muy Thai and Okinawan disciplines till I saw that fight. I realized immediately that any one style was incomplete, and BJJ (soon to be MMA) was reality. I've had the privilege to grapple with guys like Rickson Gracie and former UFC champ Oleg Taktarov, and am here to tell you it's a humbling experience! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Re: Lesnar vs Couture
You know.. I just can't see Randy losing .... I try to look at the deal on paper or say brock is too strong .. but Randy is the man ... he is a great guy too . So I am saying , " Randy , teach Brock a lesson"
So what's Brock taking... HGH, straight up steroids... what ? The guy is busting through his skin.Lets see if this goes more than a round and if brock gets that steroid pump in his muscles and gasses |

Re: Lesnar vs Couture
I don't think it would be steriods causing "man hood shrinkage" it would be the 35-degree icebath!...
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
I understand what working out is . I played a little ball in my life and have some good size to my frame. I phrased my question incorrectly. You can test for steroids but then that test doesn't show growth hormone or other forms of performance enhancing drugs. The tests are specific. So I was curious what others thought . It seems as though you guys feel he just eats well and puts himself through a strict workout regime.. that's cool.
Brocks video reminded me of a machine at the training center I had to use that was basically a freezer that would freeze a block of ice solid and then they would cut out a hole in the center for whatever body part . I used it for my arm and my elbow and I can tell you it felt like ice sickles were running through your veins. It was intense. My least favorite part of the day. |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Lesnar is an amazing wrestler. A crazy athlete. I think he will be a great fighter one day too but he is way to one dimensional for Couture. IMO they are both on HGH,as much as Randy projects the Capt America image you don't bang with guys half you're age at that level without it.
If you like the dog angle here are some stats that don't lie- Randy Coutures Record as an underdog in the UFC: UFC 15: Vitor Belfort (No odds available. Easily +400 if so.) WIN UFC 43: Chuck Liddell +260-+300 WIN UFC 44: Tito Ortiz +140 WIN UFC 49: Vito Belfort +115 WIN UFC 57: Chuck Liddell +180 LOSS UFC 68: Tim Sylvia +260 WIN UFC 74: Gabriel Gonzaga +115 WIN That's a long stretch of kicking A,against a guy with Three MMA fights to his credit. WWA isn't MMA. Should be quite interesting! |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
I'm not gonna go out on a limb and say neither is on HGH, clear, one of the 'bols, or whatever...because they certainly wouldn't be the first, nor the last...but, in perspective, we're talking about *elite* athletes here. I've seen what simple supplements have done to guys I work out with...heck, I'm a perfect example, as there's no possible way my scrawny frame could flat bench 350+ *without* simple supplements...but start with a guy with already excellent genetics, and then throw in a no budget diet/supplement package, and good things are gonna happen. If you've ever been around a college athletic department much, then you've seen 'kids' transform before your eyes...
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Just curious; what do you consider "simple" supplements? Creatine, Protein?..............
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Yessir...
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Creatine is benign if you stack with common sense and stay super hydrated- results are clearly there they even give it to aids patients to replace mass. Your body produces it but with age it diminishes(hence supplementation). I'm talking growth,Dbol, winstral V and all the other renal system shut down cancer causing synthetics that make for 70hr seasons. Vitor Belfort was an incredible fighter, but juiced his way into losses. If you look at most of the brazilian fighters, they don't even touch DAIRY products because it robs oxygen. Randy is one of the most cereberal fighters in UFC history, and his cardio/diet program is better than 90% of the fighters. Of course he could get knocked out in the first round..look at Chuck and Jardine, but i don't see him getting hurt and the longer it goes it favors his game.
Look to see who gases first tonight and you'll know who's dippin into the cooking sherry more https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Randy is a stud... Brock said it best " you got to have some big balls to take a year off and come back and fight a young buck like me " .... if Brock has any say in it he should chose his fights very wisely....
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
...And that's what happens when you try and jump *up* a class and fight a naturally bigger guy! I think Randy came in @ 220...thats giving up 45 pounds at the weigh in, but probably closer to 55 pounds fight day! Just too much mass to overcome when it's as athletic/mobile as Brock is...I think Brock was getting gassed towards the end, and his all around game still needs LOTS of work, but what a base to start to with...
So who will Brock get next? |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
I agree, he was gassed but that shot behind the ear saved the day for him, Randy will be back by what it sounds like, at 45 years old it's hard to call him a loser.
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Randy was gassed at the end of the 1st round as well. go back and look at him sitting on the stool. He was sucking a ton of wind as well. Lesnar was winning the fight before the knockdown punch. The skys the limit for Brock. Would be nice to see a rematch with Mir.
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Mir has never been the same since his accident... either Mir or Randy in their prime would have put it on Brock . I hope the UFC doesn't do what boxing has done... start matching passed their prime guys up with a name that they think can be a draw yet still look good gainst one another . Bring on the new blood !! Brock will always have a gassing problem no matter how hard he works out..... it goes with the territory . I would rather see GSP and Silva or Florian and BJ than Brock fight . I do not think he will get much better . Put Brock in with Fedor
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
[ QUOTE ]
Put Brock in with Fedor [/ QUOTE ] ^^ This. Fedor would destroy Brock at this stage IMO. Fedor is to HW what A. Silva is to MW. I would love to watch it though. |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Back in the day, Mir could flat GO! Not even 1/2 the guy he used to be...which is a shame, and has to be frustrating. GSP is another one of those freaky athletic guys, and I've always liked Ken-Flo, as he seems to always get overlooked, but then flat gets it done...not sure Brock could hang with Fedor, but I'm not sure who else in that top class is worth watching? If I *never* see another Tim Silvia fight that would be fine with me...!

Re: Lesnar vs Couture
If you remember Bob Sapp, He is also a huge guy and very athletic, Nogueira took him out with an arm bar
|
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Ha!,Bob Sapp couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag,let alone shine Lesnar's shoes..i think he's playing Golf with Kimbo these days https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Looks worse than I originally thought from this angle, compared to when I saw it Saturday night...a shot behind the ear, from an insanely strong 275 pound, whose hand is big enough to require a specially made glove...!

Stick and move , stick and move.. I think if Randy had a little better game plan he could have given himself a better chance of winning. Getting Brock to the third or fourth round was key but what I was afraid would happen did. A semi glancing blow from a guy, who probably weighed about 285 the night of the fight , would be enough to knock out most. Randy actually took the shot pretty damn well. A lot of guys would have went to sleeeeeeeeep . I like the the Gonzaga match up too. I think that kid could tune Brock up. |
Re: Lesnar vs Couture
Couture was just lucky he fell. Brock was looking for a grasp and was loading up the right knee. They migh of been picking Randy up out of the upperdeck.
