1972 oldsmobile 442 4 speed (survivor)
 

This is a very nice original 442 that is documented with protecta plate and build sheet. it was owned by the second owner for 30 years and very well taken care of, the build sheet shows all options with nothing added. including working A/C rally pack with tic tock tach and seat belt warning on top of dash, it has inside hood lock, tinted glass, power steering, disk brakes, 3:42 possi, M-20 4 speed, 350 4 BRL, that has never bean taken apart, only the water pump and maint. items being replaced, bucket seets, bumper guards, ss wheels, white stripes and 442 option,am radio (I have the original and the dash is not cut) the interior is in great shape other than the drivers seat needs a cover, and the original carpet shows some were in spots, the 2nd owner had the outside repainted in the early 80s and at that time he had the car undercoated, he had the rh dog leg on the fender repaired at that time as he stated there was a small rust spot there and a lot of stone chips behind the tires,he also had the rims painted body color (originally grey) so he installed the splash guards afterwards, he said he could not get a new shifter boot when the original went bad so he put in a hurst boot years ago, the paint has held up fairly well for 25 years but it does have some small bubbles behind the tires and a couple of small scratches here and there, I planed on steam cleaning the cars engine area and repairing the seat but have not gotten to it yet, this car runs and drives great,and quite rare being a 4 speed, and very unmolested, 17.000 OBO

the trunk floor and pans look great, it has the original felt trunk mat and jack/spare, I will post some more photo's asap

Certainly a pretty car and very unusual being a 4 speed. Love the paperwork. Some one could add the sculptured rear bumper easily, they could even put a W25 hood on and still be in your car at a very reasonable price. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

I guess the survivor term has several meanings, and I might not even know when a car can no longer be considered a survivor, but I will explain why I call it that: engine has never bean removed or altered, interior never altered or restored, the jams and under hood and trunk are all original paint, original door seals, window felts, bumpers, trim, grilles, lenses, and so on, the body wasn't stripped to the bare shell and repainted so I guess that's what I base it's survivor status on, if the "survivor" word doesn't fit for some, I can agree, we will call it a unmolested original instead, I can tell that this is how I like to find them, drive it home,no part hunting needed, glove box full of original paper,

I have feelings similar to Hemibee on cars like this. There needs to be a survivor-ish term to encompass unmolested cars like this that got a quick respray in the original color, particularly when they don't get into the jambs or trunk. I know that survivor is becoming an official term and there needs to be a line somewhere, but I'm not really offended by the usage of the term on a car like this.

So what do you call an unmolested car with nothing but maintenace things changed over a 40 year or so period? Survivor #1? How would you judge a car like this Olds we are talking about with the same equipment, color, style etc. with another Olds that did NOT have a quick respray. Who gets the nod? I've owned two Bloomington Survivor Corvettes that were 100% repaints. Bloomington requires only three of the four areas pass Survivor judging for the car to be considered a Survivor. Benchmark judging requires all four areas to pass Survivor judging plus Bloomington Gold status.

Thanks for the great 442. I am very happy with it. It was just as you described it. If they have another Survivor car show I hope I can be a part of it. This car is definately a nice Survivor. This is the type of car I was looking for.
