Would like to make a 87 B/M vette.....Any ideas?
Hello everyone. I am new to this forum but I am really happy that I found it. I have gone through 40 pages of your motion info so far and cant get enough. I am a average guy (kids, wife, house, average salary) and would never in 10 lifetimes be able to afford a real B/M car. So....I have this idea to create a "phantom" out of my 87 corvette. I have several questions that I am hoping to get answered from you B/M experts.
#1 Did motion make any C4 corvettes? #2If they did, does anyone have any pics of one? #3If they did not, does anyone have any ideas or thoughts as to what motion would of done (such as emblems, wheels, etc...)to the vette? #4Does anyone know of any C4 clones that have been done? I have seen the pics of the Iroc and as much as I want it to be time specific, I dont want it to be like that (spoilers, wings, vents). I want it to be muscle like the late 60's early 70's cars. Here is a pics of what I have come up with so far.....looking forward to any input, Thanks in advance, Chris http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...motionrear.jpg |

Patience, Laddy. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif You are only limited by your budget and taste for options.
Joel stopped building cars in the early '70s, so no C4s. Paint looks nice, what are your intentions for the engine bay? |
Re: Would like to make a 87 B/M vette.....Any ideas?
Ah...patience...I know but I have vette fever right now. Anyway thanks for not leaving me out there. The paint is a photoshop job from a forum member on a corvette forum. Here are some other ideas he came up with...
http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...tripeblack.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...rearstripe.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...arnostripe.jpg The engine runs really great so I wont be touching that yet. The car has some modifications to it and will run a mid 13 on a street tire. What I am looking for is some advice on what Motion may of done to a C4 if they had done one. Would the Corvette emblem on the rear stayed? Maybe replaced by GT lettering? How about the gas door and emblem? Replaced by a LeMans Cap? the wheels I am leaning towards and vintage wheel 17x11 rears with 315/35/17 and 17x9 fronts with 275/40/17. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...ntagewheel.gif It is very hard to stay time specific and still get the look I want with a 80's car.I want 1970 visual muscle in a 1987 package without the 80's tackiness. I am really tired of looking at non modified corvettes. I find them so boring. |

I would leave it alone and when you're ready to build some more vintage, then put your money into a car in the MP time period.

Joel stopped building cars in the early '70s, so no C4s. [/ QUOTE ] You are wrong. Joel most certainly did not stop building cars in the early 70's. There were Motion cars built long after that... A member here owns a 1987 Motion Monte Carlo, a Motion modified 5.0 Mustang and Charley Lillard had a 1980 PHASE III Motion Camaro at one of the SCR's. It was a feature car a few years ago, and I think it's still owned by an sYc member. If you read the thread directly below this one you'd see there will also be an 81 Motion 454 Corvette at Vettefest this month. I don't know if Joel had a hand in modifying any C4 Corvettes, but I wouldn't totally rule it out until I asked him personally...While I am personally not real hot on the idea painting Motion stripes on a C4 vette, if you like it go with it... I WILL say your buddy has some kick ass photoshop skills... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: Would like to make a 87 B/M vette.....Any ideas?
There is also a complete street/strip '90 5.0 Mustang(Motion Cobra) with trick heads and blower unit which Joel finished in the early '90's --It was metallic blue with a large reversed power bulge in the hood to clear the blower.possibly stiil floating around..It was documented by Joel as the last car Motion built when it was completed.----

hey chris,
i like the photo shop pics! ya know, the nice thing about owning a vette is that you can make one look like what ever you want. you go the carlisle, bloomington, ect .. and you see tons of new and different ideas and mods. if you dont have the moola to get and older one and do a motion tribute/ clone then spend a few bucks on a paint job! you'll have a cool lookin car when you get done without breaking the bank. (just don't try to pass it off as a real motion vette !) we'll come get you !!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif have fun and lets see pics of the car when your done. joe |

Re: Would like to make a 87 B/M vette.....Any ideas?
Wow guys...thanks for the words. I know everyone is real protective of the TRUE Motion cars and its history. Thats is why I kind of think this works. The fact that Motion never did a C4 takes a whole ton of pressure off the "phantom" idea. You cant pass off something as real if it never was. It is more as a "what if?"
Now....could you help me with some design? Would you remove the emblems and replace them with something else or leave them? |
Re: Would like to make a 87 B/M vette.....Any ideas?
I'd consider adding C4 Grand Sport flares to the car and bolt on a flip top gas cap to the gas door (just for nostalgia sake) Maybe you can photoshop those ideas to see how that would look. I would leave all of the emblems in place though.

Red/White Please

Re: Would like to make a 87 B/M vette.....Any ideas?
I think the red/white combo, it looks the best to me.
I empathize with you about wanting to honor something a cool as a Baldwin Motion ride. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif Not only is having the money a issue for buying one, you just can't find them. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I will help you any way I can, I studied Motion cars for 3 years while gathering parts and making mine. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif Matter of fact, I even spoke with Marty Schorr and Joel Rosen https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif before I made my car to make sure they would be ok with a Clone that was as close to perfect as I could make it with NOS parts. They both told me that they were flattered that so many people still revered their work and how happy they were that the younger car guys were keeping their name alive. Baldwin Motion clones are not exactly a big hit here as most here hate the idea of people trying to scam someone down the road. I agree with why they feel that way, and once these guys know that you just love the cars and want to be a part of the community, they will open up. There is a lot of good guys here. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif I have made some great contacts and have been able to get some info and things I needed from them. Just be patient and stay involved. You can see my car in the Motion photo gallery. Jeff https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |
Re: Would like to make a 87 B/M vette.....Any ideas?
Good advice Jeff. Thats what I kind of figured. I mean I was just being born when Motion was in the heat of things. I really like the Motion style of cars because they so much remind me of the models I would build in the 70's and 80's. Everything had big tires and cragars, tunnel rams and traction bars. That was definately my favorite time period of auto cutomization. It was cool to have the carbs comming through the hood and have the tires just peaking out from the fenders. It was a time when guys were not afraid to let the person next to you know (or a least believe) you have some serious power availible under your foot. This is a great forum. I am so happy I found it. It does have lots of good info and you guys all have kick ass cars!
I just took the car to the bodyshop and they quoted me a price of 2,500 to do the stripe. I think thats a bit high so I am going to get few more quotes. |
Re: Would like to make a 87 B/M vette.....Any ideas?
shoot chris ,
i have sneakers as old as you !!! it is great to see someone that enjoys the "oldstyle" cars. i think what jeff just said is true, joel and marty must enjoy it as well! i'm also doing a "clone/tribute/something that looks like" motion vette. i have gotten the motion: valve covers, torker intake manifold, fly eye air cleaner, lemans gas cap. these aren't cheap! but it will be worth it when done. (you can check out my 68 vette at link below.) i would get some more estimates for the stripe. glad you found this site. it has been a great help for me!!!! and the people here are great ! joe https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif |
Re: Would like to make a 87 B/M vette.....Any ideas?
Come on Joe....sneakers? Maybe a t-shirt left over from a Stones concert....Its intersesting to me that you guys say that Joel and Marty enjoy the following their work has done. I was unsure if they liked the all the fuss their cars have created and am very unsure if they would be receptive to the idea of someone like me "copying" their creativity. Its always cool to get a blessing before you do something like this.
