Well now my day is complete, what fun. How about the narrow hip Cobra, Colin? Love to see that. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Ahh yes, Ken Miles showing Mort Sahl's car how it was done. One of the few moments in time I have on my list for when I get my flux capacitor working in the Delorean again!!!! I LOVE that photo https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: For all of the closet Ford/Shelby Folks...
Imagine what that test/demo drive was like. Ken Miles driving an early 427 side-oiler Cobra on skinny Blue Dots. I would bet that Sahl knew he was watching the master. The caption to the original photo noted that Sahl had more than one Cobra. I have a couple of Sahl's early c1959-60 albums and on one he talks about getting a ticket on the Hollywood Freeway in his Austin Healey. He was a sports car enthusiast for sure.
Here's another to-die-for '65 narrow-fender (as we Yanks called them) 427: http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...427Cobra65.jpg I'd take this car over any other 427, bar none. |
Re: For all of the closet Ford/Shelby Folks...
So what you are saying is that it was not the same as watching Tim G drive my car last year? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
I agree, I like the skinny ones the best too. In my book the slab sided 289's are tops but the narrow 427's are right up there in the looks department. Never understood the crazy wide hip cars, just doesn't look right with street tires and narrow wheels. 8.15x15 Blue Dots just looked lost in there. But I am heavily biased as you might have presumed https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Colin |

Colin, you have no idea what I did in that car when you weren't watching........ https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

I'd take this one, even though it's flared. Those puny duals probably sounded pretty good up around 5 grand. There was an episode of "The FBI" (a Quinn Martin production, starring Efram Zimbalist Junior) in which there was a black narrow-hip 427. I vaguely remember a chase scene with the Cobra roaring down a 2-lane road. The car was driven by a woman and EZ Jr. was in the pass seat. |
Re: For all of the closet Ford/Shelby Folks...
I thought this youtube clip is interesting so doing some research on it.
It’s not much and poor quality but still very cool clip of the 1965 ARRC race at Daytona Speedway (now known as the SCCA Runoffs). Someone commented it looks like the JFK Zapruder film. There were 16 cars in the B/P race (ran together with A/P) 10 Shelby GT350s, 3 Sunbeam Tigers, 2 Jags, and one Corvette (Don Yenko's 1957 Fuelie) The 1963-65 Sting Ray and the AC Cobra ran in A/P in same race. Don Yenko finished 3rd in B/P with failing brakes (amazing run) Mark Donahue, in the dark color GT 350 qualified 2nd overall. (Mark had an amazing qualifing run) Jerry Titus won the B/P race in a GT350 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsL_W7I5OlA |
Re: For all of the closet Ford/Shelby Folks...
Just got this with a stack of old car magazines I bought.
Ken Miles leads while Dave MacDonald runs in third, close behind second-place Corvette of Paul Reinhart, Riverside, February 1963. http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a2...63RTCobras.jpg (The nose of MacDonald's Cobra has black paint around the opening--it's a normal 260 opening.) |
