Green LS6 progress
Many of you know that I recently bought an LS6 from Rob (k92) and now the car has just had it's initial painting done.
The guys over at Nostalgic Autobody have gone to great lengths to make every panel align on this car near perfectly, if not exactly. They matched the existing color of the car, instead of just shooting color according to the code book. Here's a group of pictures showing the same area of the car as it has progressed. I have a lot more pictures and will post a few others as the rest of the body is painted and buffed, then assembled. From top to bottom shows how the car was found, then disassembled, before the bodywork, during bodywork, and finally with the initial painting. Disregard the column shifter in one pic as it's just a steering column we threw in to move the car around. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...sfound0059.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...sfound0060.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...ignment018.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...ork8-08024.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...painted044.jpg |

-----Hey, Rick,,,Ive seen that garage before!!!!!! Looks like you are making big time progress there.
-----If some of you dont yet know Rick, he deserves this nice LS6. Hes been working in the trenches too long. Hes always had the capability to do all this stuff but its my guess that stuff (life) has gotten in his way too many times. Happens to the best of us. Dont ask me how I know. Now appears to be the time and I expect great things out of him as he is as knowledgeable and capable as most everybody on this board.........Bill S -----By the way,,,,Love the John Deere cowling storage spot!!!!!!!! |

Looks good Rick...Gonna be ready by CB09?? Thats what I'm shootin for!!
|
Re: Green LS6 progress
Thanks for the compliments guys. I'll get another grouping of pics to show again soon.
Dan, The 69 Post is more than happy to help out holding parts for the LS6. It's time is coming. I'm quietly hoping to get this car done by the fall Vettefest, but that might be a bit too optimistic. CB09 is almost for sure, and if I don't make the fall Vettefest, then maybe the spring show. Thanks Bill for the vote of confidence. I only hope to match some of the work done by many on this board. |
Re: Green LS6 progress
Lookin real good Rick. Nice work. Can't wait to see it done. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Are they located in Wisconsin? A shop called Nostalgic Auto Body painted a car that I currently own in 1986 and it still looks great today. Just wondering if it is the same place. If so I would love to talk to them and have them do work for me in the future. |

Re: Green LS6 progress
Here's some pics showing the original trunklid, the color match spray-outs, and the painted trunklid.
That's the original selling dealership sticker (Schumacher in Metamora, IL). The original owner must have liked documenting his tire usage. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...painted003.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...painted017.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...painted024.jpg |
Re: Green LS6 progress
Nice color match Rick. For those who care, notice the lack of paint under the hinge mount and the rear of the lid on the original lid. I normally see a lot of rose or red oxide primer in that area as well.

Re: Green LS6 progress
So what is the general opinion on matching what is there vs color matching?
I am restoring a car right now and the wiper grille is extremely nice original paint on the bottom and I had it scanned and it was off from the color match. The Lemans Blue orignal paint scanned as a more muted color... It was Lemans Blue with more black in it (muting it) and it showed fine aluminum in addition to the medium ground aluminum... (I attribute this to the fact that medium gound aluminum which is half burried in pigment could scan as fine.) The Dupont paint man said that was very possible... |
Re: Green LS6 progress

Re: Green LS6 progress
steve,
bear with me here i am new to the supercar site. my name is joe and i have been doin the majority of the paint and body on ricks forrest green car. nostalgic auto body is located in island lake, Il. we have currently been in that location goin on 4 years now, feel free to check out our web site at nostalgicautobody.com. we encourage anybody and everybody to check it out thanks, joe |
Re: Green LS6 progress
Joe has finished with the main body of the car, and the trunk lid and gone over it with the buffer once.
The doors are being painted today and the car, minus front clip, comes back to me next weekend. I had him purposely blow in some overspray on the floor. They also will be applying there own concocted trunk spray that is near dead-on to the factory stuff. Here's a few more pics. That's Joes reflection in the right quarter panel. All I can say at this point is WOW! I love it. http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...painted038.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...painted029.jpg http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e4...painted012.jpg |
Re: Green LS6 progress
WOW!! Look at the reflections in that paint!
Outstanding to say the least!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |
Re: Green LS6 progress
KILLER... I am falling for the green after Alberts COPO and this LS6... I love it when the reflections are like a mirror... when you start looking at what is going on in the reflection... not realizing you are actually staring at one spot on the car... then you know you've got an incredible paint guy who enjoys what he does!

Re: Green LS6 progress

I actually saved the original trunklid and used a different perfect original to replace it. I think I'll hang the original trunklid on the garage wall.
