Fred Gibb Memorial- LaHarpe

After attending the Fred Gibb Memorial Car Show for the last couple of years.......I still find it "Amazing" that the Fred Gibb Dealership was the Epicenter for the Start of the COPO HIPO world........To hear and read (Back in the Day- Real Time) about
the first 50 Novas and the ZL-1's while living in Chicago and wondering ..........Where the Hell is LaHarpe anyway??.........This is like a Trip to Mecca......So.....Where is LaHarpe.....Here's a Picture of what you see as you are Driving to LaHarpe.....

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...8/DSC00615.jpg

"And"......This is what my Garmin Displayed.....

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...8/DSC00617.jpg

Get the Picture........LOL

Just think a Minute about the foresight and thought process that Fred had in his head at that time......"Way" ahead of the Curve........Not that there is anything wrong with a small mid-western town.....But......Just Imagine if Fred would have had the resources and Customer Traffic Pattern of let's say......Nickey or any "Big" Dealership of the day.......Pretty Scary where he would have ended up with his Drive, Vision and Determination.......
Just some thought's.........Just think of the "High's" and "Low's" that Helen, Nancy, and Connie have been thru .......Yep!!..........Fred was a Great Man......
The purpose of bring up the fact that LaHarpe is in the middle of nowhere.........Is that the area that is set aside for the car show gets completely filled up on "The" Day.........Lot's of People come a long way to show respect for Fred and Understand the "History" that was generated........in the Town of "LaHarpe"......... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a2...8/DSC00625.jpg

So......Here are some Pic's

Re: Fred Gibb Memorial- LaHarpe

Well, pretty much the same story as Monmouth; the gas prices and the economy in general didn't seem to affect the turn-out of this event. Without final numbers, Kenny Brown said it looked like the show was as big as last year. Over 470 cars registered, and that didn't include most of the cars under the tents. I'd say that speaks volumes for the Crew that works their tails off to put this show together. Although I'll no doubt miss a number of names, I want to thank Ken and Anita Brown, Jerry and Cathy Burford, Bob and Nancy Lionberger and ALL the others who are responsible for this 'Homecoming'. And how could we forget the Stars of the Show, the Gibb Ladies. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

As in years past, a few new faces. Roger Sutton from Kansas chose the 10th Annual Gibb Show to debut his '68 Harrell prepped L-72/L-89 '68 Chevelle, which was sold new at the Gibb Dealership. Roger told us he's owned the car for around 25 years and just finished an impressive restoration. Stunning colors of Ash Gold with Gold Bench interior and Black Vinyl roof........... a VERY nice car! We're working on him to come back to Illinois at the end of the month. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

I have a few photos I'll work on Sunday morning and get them up later in the day but for now this ol boy is headed toward a pillow,.................looking forward to dreams of cackling engines and the sweet smell of 112 octane fuel! What a weekend!!!!!!

Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing the pics and the stories for us that couldn't be there!

You are right...Fred Gibb was a great man....and his wife and daughter carry that tradition on....Fred would be proud of that.

Some really cool stuff that I've not seen pictures of before. That L89 Chevelle is way cool-as is the Lead Sled wagon https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif

BTW, did Dave Miner make it down there? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

The Gibb Gals with Ol' # 1. The new owner had a bit of a racing accident Friday evening and couldn't bring the car himself, but wanted the car to be there. (Word is he's OK, just banged up a bit.) Here's one for you Joe.

We'll have to ask the Mayor of Donahue lean on him a bit to get it to SCR 11. The car is just a few miles from Schonye.

Evidently Joe is a racer, although he seems to like to turn left and slide a lot! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Might be a chore to get him to run an entire 1/4 mile in a straight line. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Here are a few shots of Annie's car (not yet completed). As it has been heavily shown the last several years, we thought we would make a slight change (hopefully with Dennis H. blessings) and show it the remainder of this year as a Day II car. Ann found an actual photo of the car as it was back in the 70's and this was duplicated thanks to Cumby who did the lettering and application in the 11th hour for us. The stinger hood was never on the car but we thought it would add a lot. Look for a couple more changes before the reunion and VetteFest and then it is back to original.

Thanks to Dennis for the striping/lettering and Schoney and Joe not only for their help on the hood but also bailing me out of a major jamb on the trip down. I could not have down it without their help. You saved my butt!! I just hope Joe shared some of that gas money with you Ken. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Actually it was. However, it was in the windshield and/or with the sign depending on which show as I could not find the correct bolts in time to attach it where it should have been mounted. Several people noticed it and commented on it. Maybe someone took a picture of it and will post it. Cumby?
