Reproduction decals
I know this has been talked about many times over....but besides Jim Osborn....and the usual vendors....is there anyone making even better decals?
Here is a very nice decal....we just don`t remember who we got it from https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif We obtained a previous trunk decal for a 1969 Chevelle...and the production date read....1958 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...n/P1010305.jpg Dan. |
Re: Reproduction decals
Hey Dan,
Production date of 1958 is correct (22nd of July to be exact) for a 1969 vehicle. Here is a photo of the original sticker on the black/red '69 Chevelle. Notice the comparative difference in size of fonts between main body of typing and bottom line in your photo and photo below. Also, note the corners of each (rounded vs. squared). Appears to be more of a paper-ish consistency to the originals. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...2/DSC04110.jpg |
Re: Reproduction decals

Re: Reproduction decals
I believe Paragon Corvette sells a very correct reproduction of the original. The last one I bought from them was made out of paper, but I don't recall if the corners were rounded or square. The picture in the catalog shows square corners. Part number: 8139 ($3), phone: 800-882-4688.

Re: Reproduction decals
I bought an overpriced Chevrolet package detailing kit from Phoenix Graphix a few years ago,and one of the labels in it was the exact same Posi label Dan shows.
I promptly returned it all for a full refund.. |

Re: Reproduction decals
All the original posi cars I have seen have had the paper ones on the lid. They never had adhesive on them, the assembly line worker just took some glue or seam sealer and made an X or a circle or zig zags on the back and slapped it on. One time I even saw one on an junkyard car installed upside down!

Re: Reproduction decals
I don't have any faith in Osborn and the accuracy of their reproduction decals. I would question everything. Their application charts have many mistakes. On a particular air cleaner decal, I sent them a photo of an original air cleaner, along with a chart from my Chevrolet parts book, the info from the factory assembly manual, and a build sheet, with all four showing the same two-letter code for the air cleaner decal. So essentially I had THREE pieces of factory documentation consistent with my original air cleaner decal, and they dismissed it. Here's what they said:
"I thank you for what you are trying to help me with , but those charts do not help me one bit. As we have documented very low milage cars with the decals as we have them listed, unless GM put alot of air cleaners on wrong cars." Right, factory parts books, assembly manuals, and build sheets don't help one bit.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif |
