Antenna mounting?
What was the logic of what cars had the antenna mounted on the front or the rear?
|
Re: Antenna mounting?
This is just a guess, but...does it have to do with AM or AM/FM? [Like, AM got antennae at rear, AM/FM got it on front?] Is this close guys?

Re: Antenna mounting?
or rear spoiler?

Re: Antenna mounting?
I know this is the case for Firebirds and is probably the same for Camaros but the rear mounting was an option with all radios, but for spoilered cars.

Re: Antenna mounting?
You could not order a spoiler car with rear antenna, for obvious reasons.

Re: Antenna mounting?
Rear mount antenna for 69 Chevelle was AM only. Some Yenko Chevelles came with rear mount antenna for an unexplained reason. I guess Don just liked they way they looked.

Re: Antenna mounting?
On the Camaro, standard AM antenna mount was the front. Rear was an option only with the AM, but not if you got the spoiler.
And AM/FM was only front mounted (and fixed height). |
Re: Antenna mounting?
For COPO & Yenko the antenna was installed by the dealers (similar to Shelby)
or the antenna was installed at the factory.?? |
Re: Antenna mounting?
The factory rear antenna is on most of the Yenko Chevelles. Don tried to keep cost down so I don't know why he added rear antenna but it does look good.

Re: Antenna mounting?
In the '60s rear antennas were cool. In the earlier '60s dual rear antennas were really cool. Our car didn't come with a radio, so when I added one, I also added the rear antenna. Yes, I did keep the radio opening filler plate. It must be worth at least $2000.00 by now.
