I can't tell you how much I miss fresh seafood. Everything here in New Mexico is frozen and it just doesn't taste the same as fresh caught.

1970 R code Mustang Hardtop and 1970 L78 Camaro SS 396. Both with 4 speed. Which one do you think weighs (curb weigh) more?

If you guessed the Camaro you would be right - by 90 pounds: 3550 versus 3460

I'm curious where the 3550 lbs came from for the L78 Camaro?....the 1970 specifications published in February 1970 provides the curb weight by model and weight to be added by option, but does not list the L78...only the L34 which used a cast iron intake.

Looks like a GTO or Lemans with Judge stripes

Thanks Lee,

I calculated for a stripped down L34 Camaro in 1970 to be:

3278 based V8
+244 L34
+10 Power brakes
3,532 total curb weight

But....considering the weight of the cast iron L34 intake is probably offset with the L78 smog system and dual snorkel air cleaner assembly...it's probably close. No clue about the Mustang curb weight.

Not arguing the comparison, just curious since Chevy didn't advertise this powertrain for the Camaro in 1970.

That site gives curb weight on most cars:

An interesting fact about the 71 Boss 351. It still had the high compression but Ford figured out how to control the smog without the smog pump. Only Boss Mustang without one.

This car has always mystified me. To qualify for racing, Ford had to build 500 homologation versions. They lost money on every car built. So why build 750 when all you had to build was 500? Why load the car up with options which increased your loss?

NOTE: The optional hood scoop never appeared. There were no options. Just pick one of 3 colors.
