We don't do "Judged Events" anymore. Too many tractor mechanics who think they're musclecar experts. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

I used to be impressed with your attention to detail; then I noticed that you don't even know where the oil cap goes. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif Looks like you need some instructions from the SCW guys. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif (But then, we could all use that, right? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif)

What did you do to the exhaust manifolds? Did you coat them with something??

Ken's engine are ALWAYS super detailed.

I believe that he *may* have used Calyx...

I won't even tell you what those pics do to me!!! Those are SO nice. It really gives me something to aspire too...

Thanks for the info. I have some correct, date coded manifolds that I want to 'fix' up and install.

kwhizz 04-04-2007 05:12 AM

Re: Biscayne Resto Project

Bruce is correct..............Calyx........Glass Bead the manifolds then rub on the Calyx Paste(It's like a Graphite and wax mix)......after they are coated you just take a rag and wipe the manifolds to even out the coating.......If they ever start to look bad you just smear some more on and they look new again...... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Just a little advice for anyone planning a "Future" Project.......Gather as many "Original" parts as you can......Because for all intents and purpose's......Most Reproduction parts as sold are basically....."JUNK".....The best Luck I've had is with the repro fuel and brake lines, they are usually "Pretty" good......but...It seem's like the rest of the stuff available is about 50-50 .......It seems the business's that sell this stuff just don't care..I just have a problem paying for something and then when it's not correct or does'nt fit, being told that "You're the first one to ever have a problem".......My customers hold my feet to the fire everyday in regards to the "Quality" of the product's we produce on a daily basis and it just "Irk's" me that these guy's don't have a Clue nor do they care........Just "Venting".....but , it's a problem because "WE" allow it to happen https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif

Ken,It's even worse when they tell you the problem is in your car.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif

Basicly their quality control is still the customer...with enough complaints they may change things..yeah right!

Ken,
We hear you loud and clear on this one. I have been dealing with this for over 20 years and have worked very closely with some of the manufactures. I constantly ask, why when you are paying a designer to sit at a drafting table making the part while using an NOS original part to draw and measure from do you cut corners. It would have cost you NOTHING more to do it right the first time. Most of the things they scimped on were petty at best and there was absolutely no reason NOT to do it right the first time. I am constantly told the same thing you were, "you are the only one who has complained!" https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif I am not new to manufacturing processes and things like gas tanks, weatherstriping, door handles, carpet, emblems, decals, exhaust hangers, wiring harnesses, inner fenders, etc, etc, would have cost NO more to do them right the first time around. I boggles my mind but only a select few have changed their tooling and gotten better. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Biscayne Resto Project

This could start a whole discussion in itself. IF every reproduction part were dead-nutz correct, then we might have certain factions trying to present those parts as NOS! I'll fall back to the Build Sheet issue. When something IS reproduced authentically, then we cry about the possibility of misrepresentation. Not taking issue with anyone here; just looking at both sides of the coin. Something of a double-edged sword. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

The honest guys in the hobby deserve their parts to be the highest quality. But you'll always (it seems) have that small group of misguided opportunists who are anxious to jump on the unsuspecting.

OK, enough for now. Have Gags ban me and be done! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Rick........I agree 100%.......I think part of the priblem is that the people who fund the Repro parts are more Sales and Marketing people and "Just" want maximum return on their investment.........I won't mention any names but a "Big" time player in the Market that "Had it all together" years ago ......is now one of the worst and will never see another Nickel from me...........

Re: Biscayne Resto Project

Don't get irked at just the reproduction Companies.
GM-Ford-Chrysler today license their name to go onto some parts that are nowhere near what the used to produce in quality & design years ago.Yet buyers see that familiar logo on a parts packaging and immediately assume it's worthy of their car.
I'm seeing more & more 30+ yearold rusted hulks being bought today as a whole, just to acquire it's proper fitting/detailed rusted parts for another restoration.
