Re: Traction bars

I have a set of these NMW bars that I am installing on my Day 2 68 Nova.

Re: Traction bars

I recall someone looking for some of the snubbers for traction bars that were oval shaped. I have one only, it is like new and who ever it is that needs it can have it for paying the postage.

Re: Traction bars

Can someone take a couple measurements for me? I need to get going on my Fakewoods.

On a set of bars (preferably Lakewoods) with holes for U-bolts AND J-bolts, what is the center-to-center distance between the outer (J-bolt) holes? What's the width of the mounting pad at those rear holes?

TIA

I'm making these for my Nova, but I would think measurements from a bar for any 2.5" wide spring application would be pretty much the same, right?

What is the date on the catalog? So... "Traction Action" sticker didn't originally come on rectangular bars? It's such a cool sticker that I put it on anyhow! I removed these from the Boss 9 that I am working on - blasted & painted them. They were on the car from at least mid '70s. I intend to put them back on if they don't interfere with the rear sway bar.

Bergy the Traffic Action bars (no J-bolt option-no triangular tab on bottom of bars generally came with just the triangular lakewood decal.

I just sold a set of NOS early Ford 9" Lakewoods Traction Action with the rear spring clamp as in the ad 1 3/4 narrow bar. In regards to the Traction Action decal. I have seen them both ways. Sometimes on the bar from the factory and sometimes as a decal stuck inside the instruction sheet..no rhyme or reason back then

They replace the lower control arms on a Chevelle. I've got an article somewhere. Will post tonight if I can locate it.

mockingbird812 01-25-2016 10:43 PM

Re: Traction bars

Ew, I was hoping that was the application! Should just bolt right in after removing the stock LCA, right? Is the ride significantly altered? What is the affect on the suspension? Any pix of it in place? Would appriciate the article Paul - thanks!

Re: Traction bars

Thanks Paul. That pretty much explains things. Wonder how these stack up against the ladder bars in my original photo above? What is the date of the magazine?

I see they mention Monte Carlos in the article, so must be at least late '69 or '70.

PxTx 01-25-2016 11:19 PM

Re: Traction bars

It was Chevy Power cira June 1973. Most other ladder bars are attached to the axle tube in a fixed position.

This one's got 2 pivot points. Probably similar but cooler looking to a good boxed lower control arm. Probably need something more to control wheel hop.

mockingbird812 01-25-2016 11:28 PM

Re: Traction bars

I wouldn't it expect these smaller TBs to be as effective the Ladder bars, but they sure look cool. I think I'll put these in the mix for day-twoing my '69 Chevelle. Thanks again Paul.
