Find a junk tape and pop it apart sometime. The rewind system on them is kinda cool. [/ QUOTE ] Dad showed me the innards of a couple of 8 tracks last week when he repaired my Magical Mystery Tour cassette...how those things wind on the outside while feeding from the center is mind boggling! Here ya go, M: knock yourself out |
Re: Vintage Stereo stuff
How about a four track. had one in my 66 chevelle ss.
my friend was power shifting my car into 3rd and hit the tape deck with his knucles, let go of the clutch while the trany was in between second and third at 6000 rpm. Scattered the saginaw into a million pieces.Thank god. Gm warantied this piece of crap 6 times. I finally put in an m21.Took out the 4track. PJ |

Oh, this thing only has 4 wires out the back - did these old units just ground the speakers at their location or...? [/ QUOTE ] Marlin Some units would have 4 wires - power, ground and left & right speaker. You would then run a wire from each speaker to a ground location. They actually used to sell a bracket you mounted to the bottom of your dash, with a corresponding bracket mounted to the top of the tape deck. When you parked you would slide the deck out of the top mount and stash it in your trunk. Midnight Auto always did a brisk business in 8-Track players! |

Sound about right Mr. Cumby? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif [/ QUOTE ] |

Now, hopefully you can picture the type of high fidelity we had back then. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUlIF...eature=related https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AS_JvIelxbA |
