Re: Aircraft pics

From an old airplane magazine. Clay Lacy, in his DC-7 "Super Snoopy," races a dragster during the 1971 San Diego Cup airshow. In those days there were 1,000-mile air races and some of the guys thought that the prop-liners, with their speed and fuel capacity, were the way to go. Lacy came in 6th at the 1970 Mojave 1000 in this airplane but was not allowed to race at San Diego because the WWII fighter guys complained about the wake turbulence from the DC-7.

How about this: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif

Last night circa 2300 our BAX (A B727-200C)aircraft flight 705BX encountered
severe weather over Alberta Canada. The aircraft was cruising at 35,000 feet
when it encountered tennis ball sized hail. The pictures below show some of
the damage. All landing lights were destroyed, as was the radar. The crew was
forced to make a "blind" emergency landing. Upon safe return to the ground, the
first officer and flight engineer quit. It is expected that the aircraft is a
total loss as its structural integrity has been compromised.

Wow, that had to be intense, talk about pucker factor!! Nothing worse than being in the air wishing you were on the ground. Lucky they didn't lose an engine or two in the process. Awesome job of the crew to get it back on the ground in one piece, my hat's off to them!

Well,

This certainly changes my attitude about flying in bad
weather. And to think about all the times I've cursed
the FAA & US Air for leaving me stranded at the Philly
airport over the past three years.

Maybe I should re-think my position https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif NAAAAAA!

When I was younger ( some called me a yuppie ), I used to
drive SAAB's. I had a trememdous collection of SAAB aerospace
related images. I thought it cool that the roots of the
car came from an aircraft manufacturer. Anyway, here are
a few of my favorites. The Viggen was the Swedish Air Force
( don't all laugh at once ) multi-role fighter of choice
before the new Gripen came into use.

Two more of my favorites:

The Viggen was famous for its short, take off anywhere reputation.
This image shows a group of Viggens taxi-ing down a
snowy road preparing for takeoff. I used to call this one
"traffic jam of Viggens on the Garden State Parkway".

This is the new multi-role SAAB Gripen. It really is an awesome
fighter in its own right. Again, as can be seen in this
image, the claim to fame was that this fighter could use
normal roads for taxi & takeoff. How'd you like to look
out your front window and see this thing driving by ! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif
Hey Honey, you'll never guess what I just saw drive by the house....

I used to call this one "taking the Gripen out for a Sunday drive". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Great pics....love seeing more anytime! .

I've always wanted a Beech Bonanza....something about that cool V-tail and aluminum mix? . Make mine a first year '47....no paint, just the bare aluminum w/ stripes. .

On another note, I read last week how the Seattle Flight Museum has bought that old Trans-Canada Air Connie in Toronto that was an restaurant for a while, now there's a big fight on about it leaving Canada? . The Seattle group has a static resto planned even in the original Trans-Canada paint yet now they're being treated like they're stealing a national treasure and no one here wanted it for years and years? . It's disassembled now for shipping and the fight is on....I hope positive things happen soon as it just deteriorates further as time goes by.

So does anyone know what aircraft Yenko was into, ever flew or what he owned himself? .

~ Pete

The accident aircraft (N1230M a Cessna Centurion C210) was registered first to Yenko Chevrolet then Yenko Honda. Interestingly that number was reissued to a Acrobatic aircraft in 2003, I wonder if the owner of that aircraft knows the history of the number? The accident happened in March of 1987 at the Charleston, WV airport.
