Always heard that you can't unring a bell. But apparently you can. I would say that since the stripes aren't original they need to go away. It's not like you're really changing anything, the paint isn't original anymore because some dipshit decided to mess it up.

The problem now is that the stripes will likely be etched into the painting which means that you can completely sand them off and re-clear coat and after a while you'll see the outline of them in the new clear coat which IMHO will look worse!

Wow!!!

[QUOTE=slimsls6;1580289]I'm in the same boat as you Charley. My car was originally stripe delete. I'm second owner and car retains its original paint. I've thought about it numerous times to remove the stripes but don't want to get into the original paint. It's a tough call to make.[/QUOTE

I'll relieve you of your misery. Don't go near that car with anything more then a good wax. Leave it alone. It looks amazing!!!

Chris White is the one who'd be doing the repaint. Very talented and quite accomplished in the Chevelle circles. He would be sanding the stripes down before blowing the hood back in with OEM style black lacquer.

No clear coat work involved in the process.

Someone should confirm with Chris that no etching will occur....this is a big problem with ex-drag cars with painted numbers on them when people try to sand them off!

Stripes are staying.

I think this is the best option given the potential downside.

Right decision.

Paint another original hood and decklid with original lacquer and have both options?

Jason
