It was in the Warhoop's salvage yard near the GM Tech Center, which is were GM disposed of their show, test and other special vehicles.
The owner of the yard couldn't bear to destroy it as told, so he removed the body from the chassis and made one judicious cut across the middle, separating the front half from the back half of the body.
Joe was able to make the purchase of the frame, piece the body back together, and restore the car.
That location (18 & 1/2 Mile Near Van Dyke Rds) is still a salvage yard today, associated with the US Auto Supply brand.

When I first saw those pics Warhoops is what popped into my head, I remember as a teenager crawling thru that place at least once a month. Even though it was used by GM to dispose of cars it was a hot spot for some Mopar gems back in the day.
In 2016 I stopped in there on a whim and it's now a U-Pull salvage yard, anyways I spotted a very cool 100% complete 1983 Capri RS sitting in the way back and bought it, really solid Texas car with lots of goodies on it, Motorsport wide body kit, Recaro interior, Compmotive 3-piece wheels, roll bar etc, got it home and brought it back to life from it's 20 year slumber. |
