It doesn't look like much. It goes by the names of Whale Vomit and Floating Gold. Would you believe it's worth $550,000!. It's a large chunk of ambergris only created by Sperm Whales. It's so valuable because it's used to make high end perfumes. |

The story goes like this . . . Back in the 1980s Vegas was predominately a city that catered to adults with the exception of Circus Circus. Families welcome. So a family of 4 goes to enjoy a vacation: mom, dad and their 2 young boys. One of the boys wanders off and enters the casino area. He finds a quarter on the floor and drops it into the nearest slot machine. And WHAM - he hits the jackpot for $1 million. Circus Circus refused to pay out the jackpot. At ever entrance to their casino is a sign: YOU MUST BE 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER TO GAMBLE HERE. The boy was 10. The family sued and lost. The Nevada Gaming Commision upheld the casinos decision. They ruled it was an illegal bet. Is it a true story? Or is it a made up one? |

July 1985. My business partner and I decide to take a week's vacation in San Francisco. I've never been there or CA nor has my partner. It's the middle of the summer going to CA. Packed shorts and T-shirts. We arrive at about 10 PM at night. Weather is warmish. No problem. The next morning we are going to Alcatraz for the tour. Have breakfast and as we are drinking our final cups of coffee we watch the fog roll in and the temperature drops from about 77 to 50 degrees. Off we go to buy sweats, long pants and jackets. Never once did I wear any of the clothes I brought with me. We did it all and then some. Great vacation. Eating Dungess crabs almost every night for dinner. We enter a restaurant and after looking at the menu I asked the waiter why they didn't serve Rice-A-Roni - the San Francisco Treat. He laughed and told me no restaurant has it. It is just a marketing strategy and a very successful one as you are not the only person to ask for it. |
Lee, I did the same thing when I went to San Diego for work a few years ago. They told me that it's called, "May Haze and June Gloom." The weather wasn't anything like I expected but it was still a cool place to visit.

From soda can tabs to the tiny tables that hold up our pizza boxes, the world is filled with little technologies that make our lives easier. Take, for example, the humble packaging used to hold meat at the grocery store. It may appear to just be a styrofoam shell and plastic wrap, but if you look closer, you'll notice another vital component. Under the ground beef or chicken breast lies a thin, absorbent pad that actually serves a few key functions when it comes to food safety. The aim of this thin pad, which for better or worse is also known as a meat diaper, is to keep the meat safe. When raw meat sits around, it can expel liquid which may appear red, but this is natural and not a cause for concern. What is concerning is that the liquid can be filled with dangerous bacteria. If the meat stays in this liquid for too long, it can create more bacteria, so the meat diaper absorbs the liquid to keep everything fresh for longer. |

1962 Oldsmobile F-85 Jetfire Turbo Wagon Exactly what is an Oldsmobile F-85 Jetfire wagon? Well, to start, it's a one-year-only, five-door spinoff of the 1961 Cutlass (F-85). And it bears the name "Jetfire," thanks to a 215-cubic-inch, 215-horsepower (300 lb-ft of torque), all-aluminum Oldsmobile Jetfire Turbo-Rocket V-8 engine that was designated exclusively for 1962/1963 F-85 sport coupes and convertibles, and 1962 station wagons. A BorgWarner four-speed manual transmission completed the unique cars' dynamic drivetrain. |
