FYI: a California-destined car from the lack of the dual chrome exhaust tips that go through the valance. Instead, California cars had regular turned down passenger car exhaust pipes for California's strict sound regulations in 1970.

That's catchy. In fact it was used (with a small change) in a Hollywood movie called HELLFIGHTERS starring John Wayne based on parts of the life of the famous oil well fire fighter Red Adair.

Seeing this photo brought back 2 memories. First, I was living in Rosedale, Queens which is situated at the end of JFK's longest runway which of course the Concorde used. There was a daily flight that left around 8:15AM. So I would stand outside and it flew right over the house I was renting. So close, I could see the Rolls-Royce emblems on the engines! All the windows on the block would rattle.

The second memory was scuba diving on a WWII wreck off the coast of Long Island. We were about 50 miles away from the coast and the wreck was right under the flight path of the Concorde. It would stop it's supersonic flight literally a few miles from where the boat was anchored and the shock wave would catch us. Man was that LOUD!

That is correct. Oklahoma is one of them. When we bought Sherri's plug in hybrid, they gave us a small tax credit. When we renewed the tag after one year, they imposed an $85 surcharge because we could plug it in (to make up for the road tax). This applied even though it still has a gas engine and we DO buy gas (just not much). Makes no sense to pay me to buy the car, then penalize me for buying it.

----Of all the 66 GTO's this one would look killer with the red inner fender liners. I wonder why no one has repoped those. You could probably install them on any 64 to 67 GM midsize. I expect the tooling would be pricey, but I think enough could be sold to make it a winner!....Bill S

I went on a road trip with a couple of friends in Dec. 1975, from Vancouver, BC, first to San Jose for a wedding, then on to visit Iskendarian Racing Cams, Gale Banks Engineering, and a couple of other people involved in salt flat racing. On the way home we stopped in Tonopah, Nevada to see this car , which was for sale at the time. My friend Dave Green wanted to get into Bonneville racing. If I recall correctly, it was in Neil Thompsons basement garage, and we spent a few hours looking it over, and hearing stories. he didn't buy the car, but came home and started on his own car.
Eventually, he ran a Vega and set a record with it with his cousin driving at 249.7 mph.
They built a streamliner as well, and set records with that too!
That was a fun road trip, staying at Motel 6's along the way, and the 8 track in my W31
cranking out the tunes!
