1) Photo taken in the grassy area in front of the GM Design Studio at the Tech Center - but that's not why I'm here - 2) That's got a regular 1970 Michigan plate on it. These days you can't register a regular plate unless the car has a production VIN. So if a car has an experimental VIN you have to run an M plate, if at all. I would have assumed this car had an experimental VIN or maybe just a GM property tag. Maybe not. Or maybe the rules have changed. K |

That photo is from 1969. It is possible Bill Mitchell drove it back and forth to work as he did with all his other running concept cars. So it may be his personal plate that he slapped on the car. |

NOPE! None of the cars had aluminum wheels except - the prototype and this isn't it. They all had the chrome magnum 500 wheels along with the first consumer RWL tires: Goodyear Blue Streaks: https://images2.imgbox.com/44/10/DHarA9ox_o.png |

And after launching it 10 feet in the air the tire comes back and hits the poor car again.

Hope the occupants survived and the seat belts held them from coming out while up side down. Couldn't tell if the air bags deployed from the frontal impact with the tire. |

I know what you're thinking . . . Boy that is cheap! But you are standing in 2023 and that price is from 1965. So when we adjust for inflation, today's price would be . . . $21,999.85 Boy that is cheap! |

The 1965 Dodge Charger II Concept Car. It was a hit at the auto shows with its fastback body lines. Being a show/concept car means it doesn't have to follow all the D.O.T. laws like bumpers and headlights as you can see from this next photo. https://images2.imgbox.com/a3/4d/iAxRU5XY_o.jpeg Here's a better shot of the front: https://images2.imgbox.com/77/ef/TNywt0mk_o.jpg Dodge decided based on the overwhelming acceptance of the show car to add a new model to it's line up: The Charger. https://images2.imgbox.com/6e/df/jBk0EPxh_o.jpeg https://images2.imgbox.com/fb/b1/JSRWLsy5_o.jpeg Not that much different than the show car. One aspect was exactly the same - the interior. Same dashboard and 4 bucket seats. Concept car on top, production car on the bottom: https://images2.imgbox.com/d9/85/a2u7ieIr_o.jpg https://images2.imgbox.com/05/5e/Lg180VwA_o.jpg Introduced as a mid-year model, the new Charger did brisk sales: 37,344 units. Unfortunately the 1967 model didn't do as well. Probably because it was the same as the 66. Sales were only 15,788 units. Less than half and with a full year versus half a year. But that would all change the following year when Dodge introduced their new 1968 model and sales went through the roof. Almost 100,000 units. |
