McDonald’s French fries are world-famous like none other. But can the popular potato side dish ever be improved? The burger-chain behemoth is selling cheesybacon fries in two lucky states.

That’s right, McDonald’s traditional hot and crispy fries are getting jazzed up with two classic add-ons: Smoked bacon bits, and a gooey drizzle of real cheddar cheese sauce. It’s not quite the gravy-and-cheese-curd-topped poutine of our Canadian neighbors, but if you like your fries with a little something extra, this is your side dish.

But here's the catch: The cheesy bacon fries are only available in Northern California and Hawaii restaurants, through the end of the year.

Here's Why Tires Are Black:

“Original tires had a lighter shade because of the natural color of rubber,” a Michelin company representative told me. “Carbon black [a fine manufactured soot] was added to the rubber compound in [circa 1917] and produced a tenfold increase in wear resistance.”

This increased longevity is confirmed by award-winning chemical engineer Jack Koenig, who says in his book Spectroscopy of Polymers that a tire without carbon black would last “less than 5,000 miles.” Consider that most tires are driven between 12,000 and 15,000 miles a year, and are meant to last three or four years or more, and you get how low that was.

It’s a trope as old as time—or at least rom-coms: That women, when kissed passionately, will subconsciously kick their leg back. What you’re seeing here has a name: the “foot pop.”

Harry Hower, a chauffeur in the Chicago area in the early 1900s, got into the tire business and proposed an idea about the whitewall to the Woodbury family. By 1918, the Woodbury’s and Harry were in business and the Vogue Tyre Company was born. Over the decades, celebrities and notable people have used Vogue Tyre products on their vehicles with Vogue whitewall tires.

In 1928, Mr. Lloyd Dodson contracted with Vogue Tyre owners Harry Hower and Margaret Woodbury to begin selling their distinctive whitewall tires. When the Great Depression hit in 1929, he turned to the local entertainment industry to sell upscale tires to the movie stars. In 1942, he bought Vogue Tyre and remained its chairman until his death.

These are the tires Vogue sells today:

The fries could be improved immediately if they just returned to the good old days and cut up fresh taters in the
restaurant like in the beginning

How about the red line tire?

Some of you know about Paul Deesen. He was a designer in the Chevy studio in the late 50's/early 60's and then in the Pontiac studios. He did the front and/or rear ends on some prominent Chevys, he added the "skegs" to the sides of some of the mid 60's full size Pontiacs. He also designed the original GTO fender emblems, the squarebody S/T Blazer, and the interior of the GMC motor home.

Like most young men, when he first started working he was quite poor - but he had right priorities. He purchased and drove an early model Corvette (a '57 ) but couldn't afford new tires. They were blackwalls and he wanted whitewalls so he grabbed a white crayon out of the kid's coloring book stash and made his own white stripe tires.

After a while the white stripes started wearing off and looking bad. He went back to the crayon box and....no white crayon.

So - he grabbed a red one instead.

It was typical back then for the studio chiefs to troll the parking lot looking for ideas on employee cars in the lot. Paul's car caught one of the studio bosses' eye and they decided to pursue it. They contacted one of the tire manufacturers and...the rest is history.

----The 64 coupe was found by our Louisville buyer, Gomer. He sold it to Classic Motors and I as well as other employees drove it at one time or another. We sold it to a Tennessee collector and it eventually ended up in McDormans collection...….Bill S
