Interesting bumper info. I don’t know if my bumper is original, but I have the same holes as Chuck.

Good info

Hmmm good info guys. I've seen 67's with them and without them. I'm going to go to the GRC site and dig around and see if they have any info on this subject.
Good lookin ride i like the gold color, sharp!

Hey Chuck….did you use spacers to clear your calipers? If so, got any pics?

Chuck_Burg 10-13-2021 01:41 AM

Mark, I used a 3/8 aluminum spacer. A friend made them for me. I will get you some pictures tomorrow. It’s still a close fit. Maybe 1/8” clearance…

Zedder 10-13-2021 02:20 AM

Thanks Chuck!

Finally got an NOS GM lower valance. It fits pretty good. I really wish I would've tracked down an NOS grill and grill moldings. The grill and grill moldings are reproductions from Heartbeat City, not sure of the brand. Driver side headlight molding is an NOS GM piece and passenger side is an OER piece. I was pretty impressed with the fitment of the OER piece. The headlights are reproduction T3s and the parking lights are the originals, amazing how nice the aluminum cleaned up with a little elbow grease! The grill molding is installed to the lower valance using the correct rivet method.

The front bumper is also the original piece and was rechromed by Meclec Plating in Fresno, CA.

As with everything, the original hardware was reused even the original headlight molding screws which have a very small E on the head of each of the 6.

There was a shortage of rear bumper guards when the Camaros first came out and Chevrolet shipped them to the dealers later to be installed when the car was brought in for service. There's a service bulletin about it. The Camaro rear bumpers have a couple of different holes on the bottomside, one for the rear guards in the normal location and one further outboard. I'm not sure why the ones further out were ever put there but they do allow someone the mount the guards further out.

Noted on an invoice

Nice find! My car is earlier than that car... L101310. It's starting to make sense now. Thanks for the info guys! I appreciate other's knowledge on strange subjects such as this.

dykstra 10-22-2021 11:16 AM

Your car looks killer Chuck!! You nailed the stance!

NorCam 10-22-2021 01:04 PM

OK Mr. Goldfinger...I gotta ask?

When do you bring it home? Or does Goldfinger get to live in that big fancy shop forever. Oh and I see a couple drips and some dirt on the floor there. Don't they have automatic sweepers and floor polishers to clean those floors every hour?

Must be nice to have that kinda storage buddy.

I mean we all can't have a shop with a lift at our house like you... My garage at home is 18'X20'... why not take care of the heavy lifting at work:smirk:?

We do not have automatic sweepers, yet! :haha: We do however have a janitorial staff who clean the floors every night with a power scrubber/zamboni type contraption. The Goldfinger, as you've named it, has become quite popular over here... I think some of the guys will have separation anxiety when I bring it home soon.

I am very fortunate, humbled, and lucky to have all the help I've received on this car. Basically the shop foreman, one body guy, the service manager and I have reassembled everything to this point. We work on it when we have time which can be hard to come by sometimes.

I need to find a storage place for my 68 Camaro while I reassemble the rest at home which ain't cheap around here!

At home I will do the following:
-Sand and polish the back half of the car after the repair we had to make to
the left 1/4
- Install all the side glass and stainless
- Install the weatherstripping
- Install the cowl panel
- Install the door handles and the interior: door panels, carpet, console,
seats, kick panels

Almost there. I think I'm going to drive it a little bit before I have the frame connectors installed...

NorCam 10-23-2021 06:06 PM

It's a killer car, and a fantastic build at the same time. I've been enjoying this thread and the attention to detail you've given the entire project. I'm sure we all agree...the car is simply stellar and trust the guys at the shop will miss it when it goes home.

Have fun with the final details Chas. You've absolutely nailed it! :burnout:

Chuck_Burg 10-23-2021 06:33 PM

Thank you for the kind words Graeme. It’s been a great project, fairly straightforward since it was such a nice car to begin with. A few years back I got a new edition of Muscle Car Review in the mail with Grady’s red 67 Camaro on it. I was blown away. I must’ve read the article a dozen times… I knew I wanted a 67 that looked like that. So if you’re following along Grady, thank you for showing us such an awesome car and giving me so many ideas for my build.

It has been a pleasure watching your Z and Jim’s Rat’s Nest COPO come together with similarities and the same attention to detail. While my car isn’t a factory high performance model or a super car, it’s pretty special to me. It’s neat to see the blend of factory correct, Day 2 and modern mods come together. Can’t wait for burnouts!

NorCam 10-23-2021 07:07 PM

I'll also echo those sentiments if your reading along Grady. Your brown Copo was more than enough to inspire me too. Yenko is such a great forum with so many great cars and great people.

And of course...the builds are infectious! :headbang:

Inquiring minds want to know........anything new on the 67 Chuck?

Chuck_Burg 12-17-2021 12:10 AM

Hi Tim! There are a few updates with the 67, although nothing major....

Graeme, I will have you know The Prospector is home in it's tiny tract house two car garage, no longer living life in the big fancy shop :(

That being said I decided to drive the car on the street... again. My house is about 12 miles from the big fancy shop so I figured I'd drive it home and have my wife follow close behind since the car didn't have plates on it... what could go wrong?? Thankfully nothing! All I can say is it's very tempting to not push the go pedal all the way down and after about 10 miles with everything feeling "normal" I couldn't resist any longer. Rolling into first gear nice and easy roasted the Pro Tracs like they were on ice, second gear same thing.... OK 496 + M22 + 4.10 gears X2 Pro Trac Tires = ZERO traction!!

All that aside I got the car home and slowly started working on it. First, I installed the roof weatherstrip channels after restoring them. Second, I took the "Soft Seal" weatherstripping out of the package. This stuff is anything but SOFT! Not gonna work so I ordered OER Latex weatherstripping for the roof and doors. WAY better, nice fit too (at least on the roof, haven't done the doors yet).

Then I installed the 1/4 glass pretty easily, followed by the vent windows and ANOTHER dilemma strikes.... The rubber I used, also "Soft Seal", didn't seal up against the door very good leaving at least a .0625" gap. Vent window back out and disassemble again... Tried Steele Rubber Products and the fitment is MUCH better but still not as tight as I'd like, but it'll do. Next was the door glass. Now I have all the side glass about where I want it :scholar:

Not sure if you all remember the small rust spot forming on the driver side 1/4 panel but that required us spotting in that area and blending the clear on the roof and passenger 1/4 panel as well. Needless to say back to sanding and polishing... will it ever be done?? Almost done the polishing. ....

I'll get some pictures soon. :beers:

Passenger side before the door glass and vent window. Original door handles I had replated by Meclec plating in Fresno, CA.

Too Many Projects 12-17-2021 12:26 AM

Looks like you did an excellent job fitting all those together. Good to know about the Steele vent seals being better and the OER latex roof rail and door seals. I'll be needing those too and should probably order them now.

Thanks Mitch! I am a frequenter of YouTube University... I can tolerate this finishing work but I prefer doing the heavy line stuff. PATIENCE is key

Yeah, I'm not good with patience for detail work either.
Seeing you post this beautiful Gold car again recently, I had to change my avatar to a pic of my hood. Now that winter is here, I need to get back on my '67.

Bahaha (Sunshine eh!)

It's blowing snow here and -6 F so there won't be any overhead door open around here right now. Car is coming along nicely now I see.

Chuck_Burg 12-17-2021 04:55 PM

Ya Graeme.... Lemme tell ya, that sunshine comes with a price and A LOT of idiots.

Arizona...:flag:
Maybe Florida, but that's a long way from where you are now.

ScottG 12-19-2021 02:12 AM

It took 2 hours , but i read this from start to finish today. The detail work and dedication not to cut corners is impressive ! Great team work, Woww !!

Chuck_Burg 12-20-2021 04:42 PM

Thank you Scott! This is my second Camaro project, I keep learning more and more!

x77-69z28 12-20-2021 05:44 PM

Gotta hand it to you Chuck. I have been following this since the beginning. Very impressed, and that’s not easy to do! I just got the body on my 70 Z/28 painted on Friday. Been a long time coming. If I was smarter, I would post pics!
Buddy

Chuck_Burg 12-20-2021 06:39 PM

Thank you for the compliment. You're right, it takes a lot of effort to restore a car this way. It's my car so I think the extra care really shows.

Please post pictures of the Z/28! Forest Green is my second favorite color on the 70... Citrus Green is my favorite.

dykstra 01-17-2022 11:49 AM

Any updates on this beautiful Camaro?

Well Dave it's been a little slow. I am pleased to announce I'm done sanding/polishing the car and it looks amazing! I installed the window felts on the driver side along with the OER latex door weatherstrip... very TIGHT fit. I installed the side mirror as well. I finally got the cowl installed as well as the front and rear window stainless without any scratches to the paint. The trim is all original GM metal, just polished. The car is really approaching the home stretch...

Made a good deal of progress on the interior of the car... The interior of this car was in very good condition when I acquired it. Much of what you see is original.... dash pad, console, carpet insulation/sound deadener, door panels, even the door panel vapor barriers!!! Absolutely amazing!

I saved the original carpet too so I could use it as a guide when installing the new carpet. Door panels, kick panels, and console all installed with the original hardware. This car probably has between 90%-95% of it's original hardware intact!

You may remember from an earlier post I sent my seat belts to Charlie at Stingray Sity, yes it's Sity not City, to be restored. Very impressive restoration on the belts and the tags are amazing... He has a good sense of humor too... left a belt long in case there is a "fat boy" using it :eek2: I guess I'd better install that one on the driver's side hahaha!

I'm still not 100% finished with the interior but I'm very pleased with the result so far. I have a nice set of NOS thresholds I bought from a member here to finish it off... Can't wait!!!

R68GTO 01-24-2022 11:51 PM

Man, that looks great!
