My LS5 with the original owner at Speedway 605 in Irwindale, Ca in 1974. I purchased it from his estate in 1998.

TimG 02-19-2023 01:11 AM

No, it was lost in a warehouse fire where I had it stored. It burned up in 1992 and was a total loss. I had the original spare tire in my garage and sold it to Charley in 1992. He tried to buy the burnt remnants, but somebody else won the bid at a salvage auction. I haven't heard anything about the car in 30 years. I still have all the paperwork. Insurance paid the loss off.

Never knew about this thread, I’ll
Grow one of my cars in there. RAIV 4spd 3.90 nodular posi Raced by Stephen Pontiac in Bristol CT by Bill Eckstrom and Tom Mc innis Bought the car in the early 90s (I’ve had 21 69 birds) but I drag raced this one for about 15 years! 15k original drag race miles w a little street racing/ driving on dealer plates along the way. First two and last pics are the two different paint schemes Stephen had on it believed to be 69-70 season change over.
The rest of the pics are when I was racing it
Best I ran with it is 11.73 , best Stephen ram with it was 11.93. Car was a C stock class car. They had previously raced a RAII GTO and a RAV pro stock 70-73 firebird . The RAV pro stock engine is currently in this car and the RAIV engine is on the stand waiting to be reinstalled someday. Those times are with the balanced and blueprinted RAIV engine. It hasn’t been raced with the pro stock engine but that engine ran 10.34 in the pro stock car in 71.

Pic of it next to my white turbo car is the car Stephen car a couple years ago. Still about the same today.m
The car was painted by Wayne Woody wood who painted a lot of the funny cars around that period of time. As well as stockers Super stockers and a lot of customs .

Idk if this is the crowd for this car, but it’s a very rare very bad ass car. My dads 56 D500-1 convertible.
Said to have been 1 of 8 convertibles !

Arnie Beswick said his favorite race car was a D500-1 hard top and he’s had a lot of race cars

Unfortunately my dad dropped this car off for and oil change at his uncles shop and back then they drained them over night, the mechanics wife had a baby and he jumped in the car and drove it w no oil it wiped out the engine. They repaired it with a regular hemi but it never was the same .

My uncles said when my dad was going 60 in this car he could mash the throttle and it would leave rubber as long as my dad held the throttle down

My mom driving it in one pic and my dad in the other when they were about 16 or 17 in high school.

I believe so but I am waiting in a response from jim(169indy) about a l78 red conv owned by Brian s from Renton Washington. I remember once years ago that he had a friend in Washington state that he told me about.don’t know if sold the car to him.

Man I bet the owner of that car would love to buy your engine or vice versa?

I offered mike 40,000 for the shell of the car 15/20 years ago. Car was stripped and parts sold at Englishtown raceway in 1982. I was buying the frame, some body parts and the vin tags and cowl tag. He wouldn’t sell it.

Since it seems OK to post hurt cars I’ll post my 69 vert that I rolled. Had alot of great times with this car all through high school. This is actually kind of 2 cars . White one I got then I was 15 in 86 and I built it up for when I turned 16 in 87 . I rolled it in 89 I grabbed another body and used most of the white cars parts to build the yellow convertible which I had from late 89 (graduation) to about 99 when I sold it to buy my first house along with about 6 other cars I had built. One of those cars I sold was a 70 Chevy big block c10, pick up chopped and lowered that I used to tow my RAIV car. I’ll post that separately when I can put the pics together.

My 70 Chevy pick up I towed my RAIV car to the races with
It was once owned by Stephen pontiac, then by Gary’s of Bristol auto body, but I didn’t know Stephens owned it until after I sold it. So I towed the same race car with the same truck Stephen Pontiac did for many years and had no idea. Funny thing is when I got the truck, it wasn’t yellow. but when Stephen , used it to tow in 70 it was yellow and I painted it the same color yellow without ever knowing it’s history

I raced this truck at super Chevy at epping NH once and runner upped with it. Raced til 1am loved this truck w. It’s custom TUCK and ROLL real leather upholstery. My wife wanted AC so bad, we used to trailer home from E town in July or august and get stuck in traffic on the tappan Zee bridge at 1 am every single time . We’d have to turn the heat on full bore to cool the engine in traffic (use the heater core as extra radiator) and my feet would be burning on the floor. It’s 95 degrees out! Wife had her feet up in the seat giving me the I’m not doing this shit another time look! Those were the days!

The panel paint pictures are the truck when owned by Gary’s of Bristol In Frank Marata’s auto show. He also owned Connecticut dragway Then there’s pics, of how beat up it was when I got it, picture w my Porsche was when it was all apart in my back yard, in the back ground of the Porsche if you look close. Bed straight back on the Picnic table, body to the right w no fenders on it

I could post cars all night long but this was my race car after I retired my RAIV car. Was a 6 popper I found and turned into a turbo car. Every nut bolt and weld I put there. And I went online and taught guys how to turbo their Pontiacs with its build threads . Started this in about 2000 ish and started the turbo build thread on 2005 goal was to break into the 9s on pump gas and I achieved it, actually went 10.00 the first pass off the trailer with it and I got greedy w boost / tune and split the block that day car was a stick car initially , became a auto been together for about 16 years without a spark plug change and I won the Pontiac day at E town with it in the fastest class in 2009 car is still going strong ram 9.70s at 146 for many seasons on pump gas.

First group of pics will be build of the under side and body, second post will be the car coming together and finished hope you guys enjoy seeing how it was done

Here’s the rest car is mini tubbed the old school way before kits were made, hung 1/4s , dropped front x member , ladder bar rear , 12 pt cage , narrowed the rear, body / paint etc all done by me in my 2 car garage, designed and built the turbo set up and headers and built the engine. Doors, nose and trunk lid are fiberglass.

Hope you guys like it. I know it’s a little out of what’s typical here.

You haven't compared the vins ? Would make sense if yours had an N in it and the Washington car was an L. That alone would eliminate it without him revealing his entire number.

69 firebird RA4 original owner took some pics the day he brought it home. we lived about 6 or 7 miles from the dealership so the car probably had around 15 miles on it at the most in this picture. not even a bug in the grill lol

back in 1989 i decided to put it in long term storage. it sat in the same spot for 32 years until i sold the blue 71 judge next to it to gary riley and had to move it. so gary and his friend norm came down from colorado and we moved it for the first time in 32 years. the next pics are when i was taking it to one of my warehouses and i stopped by my parents house. my dad always took pics and took one of me beside it. 32 years later i decided to move it to another location after we dug it out and i just happen to stop by my moms on the way and realized the last time the car saw daylight i had stopped here and i knew they had a picture of it so i recreated the pose and had my mom take the pic. i stopped by a buddys house after that and took a few pics. the last one is where it sits today.

So, I was back home this past summer at my childhood home and found this photo of my Dad circa 1971; that's my baby car seat you can see in the back...

This post is more a general reminder to all not necessarily about this particular car-
While I love this car and have for years I certainly hope you enjoyed it and ripped a lot of gears with it rather than just let her sit. (I’m fairly sure you did and I know you had others to rip gears with also). That’s what these cars were about having fun and enjoying them, fine line between preservation and stagnation.

I’m fairly sure from Pryor posts you did in fact enjoy this car!
I just want others to remember these weren’t meant to be retirement packages they were cars to be driven and enjoyed that’s why we love them so much.

I have a brand new hellcat Durango and while I enjoy it’s so clean and all original parts and currently in perfect shape my father reminds me OFTEN to take it out and run it hard otherwise what good is owning it. He says “ what are you saving it for the next guy to enjoy.” “Go tear it up”. He’s 85 years young. At that point we usually take it for a hard run down the airstrip where I keep it !

What good is having a beautiful woman if you never make love to her!

Sounds like this car was enjoyed from 69 to 89 and is still one of the finest examples.

This pic is from twenty some years ago, my original LS-5, M-22 car, with the normal day two stuff back then. Had Hedman Headers, Edelbrock intake, Holley, camshaft improvment, MSD, rear gear swap, and cheater slicks, used to take it to the track quite regularly. Ran 12.20's@113.
Have since restored it back to completely original, still has it's born with drivetrain. Luckily, I didn't blow anything up, or wreck it.

First car in 1985. '67 SS. L34/TH 400/3.31 12 bolt. Bucket, console and blinker tach. Had it until some chunky girl I went to high school with hit me with her '55 Chevy and opened the driver quarter. Looked like an opened tuna can. Took the insurance money and sold it as is. Betting it's out there today.

Chevelle #2. '69 SS from North Carolina. Bucket, 4 speed. Another 12 bolt 3.31 car. Had a factory aluminum square port intake and it said 375 horsepower. Had to be an L78 right? Wrong. Ran the numbers in shop class: '74 police 454. Still ran strong though. That linkage for the Muncie was a pain in the ass street racing on Telegraph.

Drove to the GSCA Nats mid 90's on the original Polyglas from Michigan to Bowling Green. First Turbo T. 12.20's @110.5 with a few minor bolt ons. '65 Wildcat daily driver while had the '69 Chevelle.

Wow, what a great thread, let's see if I can add a few to it.

Hugger Orange 70 Nova that I bought new in June 1970 shortly prior to my dad taking this picture of me with it. 307, floor mounted 3 speed trans. Within 2 weeks the Rally wheels were gone, replaced by some dark spoked Keystone mags that looked similar to Torq-Thrusts. Another couple weeks and single exhaust was gone, replaced by Midas with duals with glasspacks. Sold it in November 1970 because it wasn't fast enough

69 Dodge Dart Swinger 340 that I bought in December 1970 from our local Volkswagen dealer, which was owned by the guy that lived across the street from my folks. 4 speed, 3.55 Sure-Grip. Beat that car mercilessly and it just ran and ran without complaint. Eventually put a 4.56 gear in it, and some huge cam that was a poor match for the otherwise stock engine. Traded it to a friend in June of 72 for his 68 Olds 442, which I kept for all of three weeks. The out-of-focus Polaroid picture is the only color picture I have left of it; the in-focus picture (taken at the same time) I gave to a friend who was doing a series of car-related articles for our local newspaper. Never saw that picture again, but I did scan the newspaper feature that he wrote about it and used the in-focus picture. My friends 69 Super Bee in the background.

70 Z28 that I bought in June of 72 after selling the short-lived 68 442. Pulled the heads off it in August 72 and had them redone, adding Appliance headers at the same time. Pulled the whole engine out in late fall of 72 to use in an as-yet unpurchased drag race car. Rebuilt a 210hp 327 from a 67 Camaro to go in the 70 Z28, with the stock Z28 intake, valve covers, and air cleaner, along with a 600 cfm Holley so it appeared all stock underhood. Traded this car in on a new 73 Z28 in March of 73. First picture was soon after purchase; second picture with my then-girlfriend (now wife of 49+ years) in Columbia SC in Sept 72, where we were visiting my friend who was stationed there in the Army.
