My question, that noone probably can answer, is how did a dealership in the small town of Lebanon find out about COPOs?

Part of me thinks that COPOs must have been more well known than some folks think. When I found out that 2 were ordered and shipped to my small hometown dealership in nowhere Texas, I was floored. I never would have imagined that.

There are tiny Canadian dealerships (British & American motors Ltd., B & A) that ordered RS COPOs! Folks knew.

Relationship? Same?

I just reread every post on this awesome COPO..As someone who did the day two on a HO 69 Z28 with a flat hood, a Black 69 Z28 and a FG L78 70 Nova I do not know if my cars were that nice when they were new! Great job!

I know I probably sound like a broken record, but your builds are really the template by which others can follow. Amazing work. I love looking back through this build once in a while especially.
One question for you. I noticed the nice wedges you used for the Lakewood bars. Did you source, fabricate them or were they part of the original kit?
I finally repainted and installed a set of traction bars on my 69 and I need to install some wedges. I don't like the ones that are available main stream. I really would rather have a set that go the full width of the mount and are held in with the j bolts etc like you have. Thanks.

m22mike 12-27-2019 02:51 PM

Grady had the wedges in his stash of day two goodies. They were not fabricated .
They my have been Lakewood ? Grady would remember.

Just disassembled my TB's from 1971. These are the wedges that were in mine.

The wedges were with the bars that are on the car. I believe them to be vintage Lakewood. We removed them from my 69 Nova that Mike restored in 07 that I think were installed on the Nova when it was new.

Thank you. Seems like those are harder to find then hens teeth. My oldest son has access to a machine shop. Mech. Eng. student. He's going to make up a set for me. I feel like the ones you're running, full width, are a lot stronger. I'll just run the spring width ones until he's able to finish them.
Thanks again for the info.

Looks like someone gets it.......really thats what these cars should be about, how many of you guys out these that have these COPO's actually know what its like to leave wheels up and bang gears down a drag strip in a special HP solid lifter factory racer? How about you Charlie? Some of you guys have no idea what your missing out on............

big gear head 12-29-2019 06:21 PM

Come to the Super Car Reunion and you will see.

Copo_Cartel 12-29-2019 08:07 PM

Well said Freddie....wheels up and lots of passes with cool cars and COPOs and Yenkos too. Our Copo has been 10.66 all on motor and no bottle.

markinnaples 12-30-2019 12:48 AM

That is, without a doubt, one of the coolest Camaros ever built. The BB is one of my favorite colors and all of the day two pieces make it unreal.

I think your car is a good example of a decent running COPO that is raced. I understand stock exhaust manifolds do have there place in the COPO world, but how cool is it to take a some what period correct COPO and race it wheels up, you must really enjoy the time you spend at the track. I'am very aware of what goes on at the Super Car Reunion.

Have you ever been to SCR? Come and watch, or bring a car. You will love it.

I have a customer thats been a few times. That would be a long tow for me. I stay busy with my own racing program, but sounds like fun.

The Calvert Racing shims look a lot like the ones posted in the pictures.

I know this is an old thread, but like others I come back and read it periodically. This car has a unique look. I really cannot explain it, but when I think COPO this car instantly comes to mind. It has remained faithful to its purpose its entire life! Great car/ great story.

napa68 07-06-2024 12:33 AM

After looking through Chuck's thread again, I thought the thread on Grady's COPO was worth a kick to the top:biggthumpup:

This COPO is amazing but for me, Grady’s red 67 with the L88 is the be all end all Day 2 muscle car. That car inspired me to build my 67 day 2 car! Grady is on another level!!:headbang::headbang:

I love the color too. Wouldn’t think so but it looks great

turbo69bird 02-14-2025 07:11 PM

Not sure if like it as much on a dead stock car I think the cragars and slapper bars make it work
Idk why that attached the wrong quote . That was for bulletpruf

dykstra 02-18-2025 10:37 AM

Just re-read this thread from the beginning. Love this car! Was the engine ever dyno’d?

You’re not crazy! I bought my 69 Z/28 in Burnished Brown in 1978. I bought it specifically because it was Burnished Brown!
