Re: Traction bars

long square tubes: short square tubes: rectangle tube: Jbolts- non jbolts? |
Re: Traction bars
Sure,,,some of us here are knowledgeable and helpful....
What bars do you have or looking for ? What are you trying to accomplish with your car ? |
Re: Traction bars
I was over at novaboy Dave's not too long ago and thumbed through a few lakwood catalogs from 69 anf 70 I think. I was surprised at the variety in 1970. There were several offerings. I'll see if I can get some pics from it.
|
Re: Traction bars
Paul, can you ask Novaboy if one catalog from 70-74 could be acquired for my display ?
I just picked up an 82 issue for reference and need an older one. Thanks, Tom |

Optional on level 2 bars, Standard on period Competition bars and not applicable on base "street bars" or look at me clamp on bars.... I'll leave Paul with a more complete knowledgeable break down.....He's Good ! Tom |

long square tubes: short square tubes: rectangle tube: Jbolts- non jbolts? </div></div> Square tubes came out first late 60's, rectangular rubes 1970 or so...but early 70's Lakewood sold both styles at the same time. J-bolts were for the Traction action street/strip bars. |
Re: Traction bars
Another thing:
Traffic Action = non j-bolt bars Traction Action = street/ strip bars with j-bolts Please don't put Traction Action decals on non-j bolt bars...I have been seeing this recently. Vast majority of bars I have seen over the years at the swaps are Traction Action with the J-bolt option. If bars have the j-bolt option you do not have to run the j-bolts. Original rectangular bars had an extended tail with a welded on tab for spring clamp u-bolt,, later, around mid 70's the extended bar stayed but the rear tab was gone and final version is no extended tab at all. Early to mid 70's all the hardware had a gold tint with black phosphated nuts. |
Re: Traction bars
Zman,
for your resto , Street side performance has Lakewood 2 1/2" U bolt clamps to attach to your springs as well as Bolts, if you have old K bolts and they're bent or twisted in any way, don't use them....they will bend again even easier or crack after you rebend them...they have 2 sizes in snubbers as well...... check the back of your bars and see if the cut off on the tube looks perfect or a bit rough.... a lot of long bars were cut off . Good luck on your project |
Re: Traction bars
I think the short square bars had a different shape plate with enough holes to use BOTH type of bolts together- U bolts and J's. The long bars were only either/or.

Re: Traction bars
Wow, look how little space there is between the spring perch and the shock mount plate of the traction bar. Yikes!

"Kool Fuel Bars" was the name of the co. They made traction bars in the early 70's..then went poof. I have a decal somewhere. |

Re: Traction bars
another junk set,,,,he's had these for sale for 3 months or better.
The J bolts are probally like muffler clamp material. Traffic action means they 'work at traffic lights, the Red ones' Notice; "Suspension Bar". Not.. traction bar !!! |

Most any decent quality traction bar(s) on a IRS Vette isn't a bad thing ...with alot of torque or horsepower.....the bar(s) stop the spring from inverting itself at the biscuits , saving the Main leaf from bending, cracking and damaging the car. Unless you want the car all stock. |

Traffic Action with J bolt brackets? </div></div> Wrong box..he originally had them listed as for 70-77 Camaro. That Lakewood box is very early 70's and that Lakewood design is later 70's(no rear spring clamp)..I had some NOS. |
Re: Traction bars
I remember that listing for 2nd gen F....
mustang, mercury , Mopar seems more like it Maybe he's watching this thread and separates the box from the bars and re-lists them as 70's-80's slapper bars , as these do appear to be the heavier street n strip bars. |
Re: Traction bars
I am trying to clean up this junkyard in my basement and I would like to get rid of some stuff and I do need help with these traction bars. (This is not a for sale ad) I bought these two pairs of bars at seperate times. Both sets are of unequal lengths. Both sets match each other. They are also very early lakewoods as they use a much different j bolt clamp than the horse shoe style clamp. We have added a couple more Day2 guys (Day2 69z and ChevyandPontiac)since I last asked the question. Either of you guys remember these unequal length bars? I think I see a pair of the same unequal length bars hanging in ChevyandPontiac's picture. Pictures are below of the bars and clamps. One set of these bars is going to go and I don't know if I should pair them as equal or unequal length?Opinions? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...366_medium.jpg
