Re: Tone Blue
I just saw this car in person today and it's gorgeous! Can't wait to see the next one that gets churned out at Jed's Restoration and Performance.

Re: Tone Blue
Thanks Matt! As always, it's a pleasure to chat with you.

Re: Tone Blue
Oh, the 500 mile break in is done! Now, it's my turn to go racing!

Re: Tone Blue
I thought I recognized that car; saw it at Atco today and it looks awesome! I love the stinger hood and really like the Cragar GT mags.

Re: Tone Blue
Dave, I would have given you the tour. And thanks 67Novaboy.

Re: Tone Blue
Just read this thread from end to end.
Great story, great car. Love the two tone choice, I am a big fan of unusual colours and combinations. Ryan PS: Did you plan to sell it all along, or just recently decide? |
Re: Tone Blue
Well, never really planned on selling it from the start, but I am recently engaged and getting married next year. I can't keep them all. I really love the car and enjoyed building it. It hurts to do it, but I want to build a family. That would be my ultimate build!
|
Re: Tone Blue
The car looked beautiful at Atco in "Day 2 Trim". Good luck with the car and it sounded good at Atco too.

I understand. My Family build is my best work. Ryan |
Re: Tone Blue
This car looks even better cruising! Saw it yesterday heading West on RT 422

Re: Tone Blue
Paul, thanks for the write up! I didn't expect all of that. I am surprised at the attention it got at the show. I never planned on putting it in the show, but it wasn't going to sit in the general parking lot! Worth the extra $5.
And thank you all for the kind words. |
Re: Tone Blue
Little bit of fun this afternoon!

Great night. Only took a few shots with my cell. Will have to offload the DSLR later. Don't want to keep you guys in suspense so Jed's very first pass in the Tone Blue Nova went 14.5. No wheel spin and leaving it in D! More to come.. |
Re: Tone Blue
I know I have some bugs to work out, but it was a fun night in true racer fashion. Slicks and tools in the trunk and friends to help out with a broken wheel stud in a pinch. I didn't know my own strength. Atleast that's the only thing that broke.
Thanks for coming out Paul! PS, I don't have any solid evidence that the Rev-Pol switch actually does anything?? But that will have to be proven. That's an Awsome shot Paul! Plumbers Apprentice out. |
Re: Tone Blue
For those keeping score, those Cragar G/T's on the front with the radials are yet another set Jed has, so the bias redline can get swapped on at anytime he feels like it. Arrived with the slicks in the trunk swapped them on before tech.
http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps30cf85e5.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps6092ed74.jpg Passed tech easily. Both inspectors gave a nice compliment saying the Nova was one of the nicest cars there that evening! http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps20acb0d4.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps0a03e44a.jpg Rev-Pol Engaged! http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...pscc23c36b.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...psc929f429.jpg http://i710.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps951b1340.jpg |
Re: Tone Blue
Thanks Paul!
The numbers weren't satisfactory to me, so I went back through the distributor and found that my advance plunger had the leather chewed off the end of it and I never maxed out my advance weight plate. Swapped in a non vac advance distributor and readjusted the timing. Now it likes 16 degrees initial and what a difference! |

This is from a local car show yesterday. I had no clue they were judging the show. I guess my fiance and I will be eating good! |

Re: Tone Blue
Marlin, do you know how many times I have driven by there and wanted to do the same very thing you just did? About 100 times. I would love that sign! Not very many Jeds in this world. And I'm named after the most famous, non biblical, one of them all. Jed Clampet. True story.
That is so Awsome that you have done that! |
Re: Tone Blue
Friday at Maple Grove, weather permitting. Dialed in a factory distributor to give me better advance. I hope to do a little better than a 14.5. Need to get those 60ft times down. Let's see what 36 degrees does for me all in by 2000rpm?
Like I was told by so many people, I have a combination, I just have to dial it in. I don't know that getting the distributor dialed in will drop me a half of a second, but who knows? |
Re: Tone Blue
Jed, test @ tune. And some seat time. To get the car worked out. The Dutchman
|
Re: Tone Blue
Same here Jed, I've driven by that sign and now that it's an empty car lot - figured I'd better snap a pic before it's too late. How do we get that sign for you????
Your distributor tune might very well get you close to the 13's! My Deuce was like that, better timing curve exposed a fuel stumble - those 2 things put me close to the 14 teens with Gardner exhaust, E70's and leaf spring clamps! |
Re: Tone Blue
I don't know your exact combo, but you should have no problem getting that car in the 13s.
I had a '70 Nova that would run 14.2s all day long (50+ passes) with a combination so simple and cheap it was ridiculous. Engine started as 1978 350 12cc dish piston short block w/ 100k+ miles on it. Original rings and bearings never touched. All the other stuff below was new and added to this shortblock. Fresh '73 993 76 cc heads with light bowl cleanup (~8.4:1 compression ratio) 204/214 .420"/.442" generic "RV" cam. Performer RPM intake Q-jet Stock points distributor 1.6 roller tip Comp rockers 1-5/8" cyclone headers - 2.5" exhaust, flowmasters TH350 from a '77 malibu wagon with whatever stock converter came with it from the junkyard. 8.5" 10-bolt - 3.08 w/ a junkyard posi from an 80s van '73 camaro 14x7 "square hole" rally wheels with 215/70R14 BFG radial T/As on all 4 corners. No tricks - full interior with buckets and console, stock weight car with the spare and a toolbox in the trunk. I drove it daily at the time and would go to the track on weekends. Like clockwork, it always ran in the 14.2-14.3 range @ 97-98 mph @ a 1200 ft elevation track (Keystone raceway near Pittsburgh). Really "bland" combination of parts that all just seemed to work for whatever reason. |
Re: Tone Blue
You are working on it and you will get it.

Re: Tone Blue
Well, no Maple Grove today, but there is Cecil County tomorrow! If anyone on the site goes, don't be afraid to say hello. My cell number will be in the car with the Smurf. The car isn't totally done, but I have been a busy man. I hope to post some pictures of a special little treat. I hope all goes well and thanks for all your support SYC!
|
Re: Tone Blue
My Friday the 13th wound up being today. Drove all the way to Cecil with no problems. Get through tech inspection and back to the pits, the car doesn't want to run. Burnt solenoid and possibly some really bad gas. Good thing is, I talked to Ed Hedrick. Wish I would have been in a better frame of mind to get him to sign some things, but he did like the NMW shirt and the Jenkins hat. Not a very happy day for me.
|
Re: Tone Blue
Spent the last week going through some stuff. Hit 1000 miles on the car. Replaced a burnt solenoid and a bad condenser. Reworked a stock dizzy and changed secondary springs. Runs a ton better. I hope to run it in the next couple of weeks to see what she does now. Updates ahead!
