Pinstripes,The Tires,Put in a New engine with a Hotter cam.Headers...new manifold. Four barrel carb I noticed it has the underside painted WHITE!!! cool https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif. I always liked a rolled wheelwells and radiused wheelwells better than the huge molded flairs like this one has. If I am not mistaken he now has a tunnel ram and may have a roll bar or was trying to find one. I think he also has installed tow tabs now. A lot of the guys on Steves gave him a hard time for modifying it to the pictures above... The day 2 look is not welcomed by everyone for some reason. he stuck with it though and wasn't afraid to make major mods. That car looked good before and after. I linked Joe to this thread, maybe he'll post some updated pics. Thats a powertour car too by the way https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
I posted these awhile back, but seeing some of the above cars reminded me of these old "Day 2" rides of my dad's. Sorry for the crummy photo quality.
'66 Elco, circa late 1968... repainted hugger orange, black vinyl top, Wide Tread GT tires. https://www.yenko.net/photos/data/500/medium/photo6.JPG His '68 Chevelle, bought it new and added an array of over the counter Day 2 parts of the day. https://www.yenko.net/photos/data/500/medium/photo2.JPG His 1968 327 4 speed International Blue Corvette circa '69/70. Fat Formula 1 SuperStockers, aluminum slots, flared fender bottoms, '69 sidepipes added. I remember this car being around when I was a little kid. https://www.yenko.net/photos/data/500/photo5.JPG Dad's Lemans Blue '69 Nova SS, note the chrome slots and hand painted "NovaCane" vanity plate, and my mom in the foreground. (That's also her name painted in Old English lettering on the front of the '68 Chevelle above.) I believe this was from about 1970. https://www.yenko.net/photos/data/500/medium/photo4.JPG Same '69 Nova circa @1971/72, new hood, new paintjob, rally wheels, and now sporting sidepipes. I guess this would be "day 3") He bought this car new, and drove it 10 years, through 10 winters... repainted it at least 5 times, total color change each time. Traded it on a new 1980 pea green 4 door Dodge Omni! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif https://www.yenko.net/photos/data/500/medium/photo3.JPG |

Should be able to get chrome reverse from Stockton Wheel in California. That nova looks like an old AHRA Pro/SS car. Something that K. Howie would have raced against years ago along with Fred Gibb. Great pictures of Joe's dad's cars too. Where did you send them for rechrome, and how was the cost? [/ QUOTE ] Ken, I had them done locally about 5 years ago. To be honest, I wasn't extremely happy with the job they did but the rest of the car is rough so it was ok. Seems to me that chrome from back in the day was just slightly dull, it wasn't perfect. These came out a little too wet and perfect. Recently, the 3.5 inch Cragars that are on the Fathom Blue 68 Gibb/Harrell Nova look to me to have perfect period chrome (can't remember who owns this one. Its the one with the reverses on the back, Cragars on the front). A little dull in the centers, shiny on the outsides. I may be totally wrong on this, just my opinion. ND |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
I never knew there was a name for what I am building. I am from Long Island and building I guess a "Day 2" 69 Camaro. Stripped down 427 4spd street race style car. Built as kind of a GM factory street racer. A lot of custom delete plates such as vents and radio.
I have been collecting parts for about a year now. The 1st was a Lakewood 3 point with the help of this board. I also have a NOS NMW Tow Bar, NOS tow tabs, NOS old style MSD 6, NOS HURST lock out for shifter, NOS old grey spoke Cragar mags, NOS Thrush mufflers and some other small stuff. I have pics of anybody is interested PM me and I can email for you to post as I can't figure it out. Great pics of the others parts. |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
I look forward to somone posting your pics.
The Day 2 concept is cool for sure. Not sure if it is clearly defined. I know what it means to me. I first hear the name used on this board form Dave aka "whitetop" which you can see his post in the archives. I don't know if he coined the phrase or not, but prior to him, I had never heard it. Was there a specific reason he left this board? |

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Pics emailed. Parts are all full of sanding dust as I had bright idea of doing quick block sand and destroyed my garage. They are all brand new. The tabs are not for a Camaro but I am going to make my own and use them as guide. I guess if someone can ID and needs them??? I also have like new adapters for a Mopar Lakewood 3 point.
Mine should be done by end of summer. Will have pics of all together in a couple weeks. Thanks for inspiration guys!! |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
By the way vintage chrome reverse rims have the tapered barrels. I think Rallye America who advertises on the HAMB has them that look correct not just chrome steel wheels.

Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
The NMW stuff is really cool. All of their stuff is old USA high quality fabrication.
Now the Rocket on the other hand, I got the impression was off-shore "knock'off" quality. Might have been a US company, but more built off-shore and assembled state side at best. Kinda cool, but kinda not given the vintage time line. Do you know how the old Cragar SS wheels they used to knock-off were made? I know Cragar used ot do it all here, now Carlisle Wheel & Tire make the Cragar SS for Cragar now has the centers shipped in from China, then welds the hoops. Don't know where the hoops are made, but I would suspect China. |
Re: Dedicated Day 2 Thread
Lots of those companies were just jobbers and repacked imported items in thier own blister paks. Eelco, cal custom, Segal, Rocket and others had several items that were identical but were in that companies packing. Joel Rosens stuff was the same way. The little carb gears that made a vacuum carb into a mechanical carb were sold by several places so I imagine he picked up on the idea and did the same. I've seen several different versions of the finned valve covers with different writing in the center and some of those said china or japan on them and I know those were old pieces. The coolest ones I saw were on a small block and they had embossed in the middle "pro/stock". I should have bought them.
