Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
...and new hoses/flex-lines too. Looks good.

Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
Now you can feel safer at the track being all new front brakes and a suspension redo.
I second the idea of replacing the front hoses, but you probably were going to already. |
Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
Yes...I plan on replacing the hoses.
I cleaned parts today and found a few factory paint marks. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dsc00867.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dsc00868.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-dsc00869.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...2-dsc00870.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-dsc00871.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-dsc00873.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-dsc00877.jpg The letter "M" stamped on the sway bar mount. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-dsc00866.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-dsc00865.jpg |

These are the bushings that were on the upper control a-arm.

You're gonna look great wearing your Bears attire while driving your Post Sedan Chevelle

Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
Kurt-
Double check the lower control arm bolts that run through the bushing and attach to frame - when I re-did my front suspension on the Chevelle the shoulders of the bolts were really worn and needed replacing. Jake |
Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
Jake,
Indeed you are correct.....this much more evident with oval bushings as on your Chevelle vs. the round bushings on a 1969 model. Dan |
Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
Thanks for the tips...I will inspect those bolts.
With everything I'm seeing, it's no wonder why the front end made so many noises. I will be sending out the master cylinder but the calipers were decent so I ordered a seal rebuild kit for them. Kurt |

Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
I got my "BA" master cylinder back from Karps.....they did a nice job.
I also plumbed the brake lines for my Hurst Line Lock.......Hopefully I don't have any leaks. I'm going to remove the protective coating on the new brake lines so they look like the others and then wire the Line Lock. I plan on getting the front end back together sometime soon Kurt https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-unnamed1.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-unnamed2.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-unnamed3.jpg |

Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
I'm having my front end parts sand blasted. I took the brake dust shields and the caliper mounting brackets up to Zinc Inc. in Slinger, WI to get zinc plated.
It only took about an hour and the parts were done. The brackets weren't sand blasted exactly like they should have been (they didn't remove all the old zinc plating) and where the old plating was, it was darker in color so I had them spray some cold galvanizing paint on it. I figured this isn't a concours restoration so it will be fine for the Blue Bomber. It cost me $10 to get the parts sand blasted and $20 to plate them. Now I'm waiting for the other parts to get sand blasted and I will paint them. A huge thanks goes out to my buddies that helped and especially Dan Vasic as it seems like I text or call him EVERY time I work on it.
This is the first time it's sat on the ground since December 22nd. I took it around the block today and it steers a hell of a lot better than it did. I take it to get the front end aligned tomorrow morning. Kurt https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...edmbu0ndqz.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...edhoqco2k0.jpg |
Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
I am having problems with the front hold down clip for the master cylinder.
Every one I've tried is either not tall enough or not wide enough. Any thoughts or solutions to my dilemma? Thanks, Kurt https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...edlbq7mwr7.jpg |

Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
I took the Blue Bomber to Byron Dragway with some friends last Sunday for the first time in two years. In that two years, I have installed the Hurst Ram Rod shifter, line lock and rebuilt the front suspension. This was just a Test & Tune day so I was just running the car for fun. It's amazing how I forgot how to do the basic things at the track since the last time I was there.
I bought a pair of used Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro rear tires as my ET Street tires were all used up.......they didn't work as well as the ET Street tires but still a pretty good tire once I got them heated up. My first two passes......I spun the tires in first gear. My 3rd (last) pass the car hooked pretty good but I had a passenger......my wife Karen, who was a little reluctant to go at first but she is a real trooper. Below are a couple pictures of the day and my time slips. My 60' times were horrible but that was due to the tires and I need more seat time at the track, other than that, I can't complain about the consistency. On a side note....my best time ever was in Joliet at the SCR reunion a few years ago which was 12.15@115. Fun! |

Wish you were closer, I would have loaned you my ET Streets! Nice runs, pretty consistent!

I love seeing how much progress you have made and how much you enjoy the car. That's what made my Passion for Muscle cars grow to what it is today. You have a great car.

Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
Car looked good out there Kurt!! It was a blast that day.
|
Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
Thanks for the compliments..........and the tires Jeff.
I asked one of the guys lining the cars up that day if I can take a passenger as I have before.....years ago? He asked me "how fast do you run"......I asked how fast do I need to run? Then I told him the car runs 12.20's.....he said that was fine but she needed a helmet.....which I had. When we got back from making that pass, a guy came up and said that I wasn't suppose to run quicker than 14 seconds without asking first.....I told him I did and he was fine with it. Kurt |

Re: SOLD my 1969 SS396 300 Deluxe Post Sedan
This was my second of three passes. I launched the car around 3000rpm. The track was cold and I didn't get enough heat in the tires this pass. The backfire was the rev limiter (7200).

Here is the only in-car video I took. I spun pretty bad but still ran close to 116mph.
BTW.....I absolutely love the Hurst Ram Rod Shifter. Kurt In-Car Camera |
