Cool license. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
BTW, here's another Burgundy/Red Stripe example. Doug Dennis' Fred Gibb sold L-78 car. (photo by Mr. Blythe.) http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...DennisRear.jpg |
Re: 69 Z/28 Feature Showcase Teaser.. Vintage Pict
On non Z cars D91 Band stripe, D96 Pin Stripe, and DX1 Sport Stripe (Hockey Stick) red is the standard color. The dealer order guide maintains that only black or white stripes are available for the RPO Z28 special performance equipment. This is why Jerry M. demands specific paperwork showing that my car came from Norwood with this color combo, in order to put it in his book, which I have none. I had ordered a Dusk Blue Rally in late Sept. At about the first of Nov. I would go by the dealership everyday after work (4:25pm) to see if it came in. On Nov. 7 there appeared for the first time my burg. car and a lemans blue as I made my daily pass. I looked around to see if perhaps my Dusk Blue came in with these, but Danny Miller, the detail man, said no only these came in this morning, they were serviced, he washed them and put them both on the lot by 2:30pm. This is why I know that the dealer did not special paint the car like I am accused of for 40 years. The other reason that I know that the dealer did not paint the red stripes is because when a friend backed into the nose of the car, the dealership body shop manager scratched his head and butt for a day trying to figure out how to match the stripe color! Had he painted those stripes on the car he probably would have known the proper paint mix is my point. Anyway I went in to check on my ordered car and the sales manager said he had no production date for my car yet. I asked if I could take the Burgandy one since I was an impatient 18 year old punk. He said yes and I told him that I would be in the next night with my co-signor (Dad) to pick up the car. So the next night Nov. 8 at 5:00pm I drove away thinking life doesn't get better than this. At 8:00 I was getting my first ticket on the Davenport, Ia. one ways! I drove 332 miles the first night and never left town. I filled up three times with sunoco 34cent gas for a total of $12.80 and got home at about 2:30 am on the 9th. The paperwork is dated for sat. Nov. 9th because the girls had already gone home on friday. I'm sorry that at my age I can no longer remember details, so if anyone asks specific questions I may not be able to answer.

The night I got my license I put over 150 miles on a '55 Olds and never left the city limits. He was steaming! Cool story! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |

Davenport cops didn't have a great deal of patience, especially with folks from the "other side" of the river. Was Danny Miller one of the owners of the Millers a go go 66 chevelle that used to run the streets back then?

Re: 69 Z/28 Feature Showcase Teaser.. Vintage Pict
Man, have you peg it! Let the "MIller Hi Life Rock & Roll" The badest Chevelles! They had the words Miller A Go Go painted on the quarter panels
As a kid I couldn't beleive wheel standing street machines! Remember Bill Lindle Auto Sales along 4th street, which was the one way west? He would have all kinds of street rods for sale. Lots of shoe boxes that flat ass hauled the mail! He still has the light blue 57 post with the "Fabulous 409" that pulled the wheels on the Davenport ones! I would have loved to see him race Grumpy at the World series of drag racing in cordova, Il in 1968! |
